Hello i am new to this thread and i hope i will make some new freinds im also new to pool kind of im an average player i would say and at the moment i cannot afford to get a really nice cue but i have a chance to get a NEW player cue With some accessories for 40 shipped and was wondering if players are a good cue decent price range but will they play good

depending on which model you are looking at... you may be better off just spending 20 to 30 more and getting something alittle nicer... players cues are great for beginners and/or people who dont play alot.. they are better then house cues. but if you play alot and learn fast you will out grow it..
but then.. have no fear.. you can pass your cue on to somebody else just learning or use it as a break cue.. i had a few different players cues. they break the balls pretty good..

As long as it has a stainless joint that should be a nice starter cue. I don't feel anyone needs to buy an expensive cue when first starting out. Actually the price seems a little to low for a stainless joint. Be prepared to change the tip if its to hard.

One of the top players from San Diego used a 40-50 dollar Players sneaky pete for a long time. You can get a predator shaft for it later when you get more $$. Jason Miller plays with a predator shaft on a dufferin butt I've heard and he plays great with it. (DCC banks winner 2x, won IPT tour card)

I think its better to buy lower end cues in person though. You can find a decent one but sometimes you have to try a couple out first. There's no way a lot of quality control is going to be done at that price. I had a 40 dollar Player sneaky, too, and thought it played fine...until it got stolen.

A similar case is with guitars; when I worked at a Guitar Center in Atlanta a pro guitarist was telling me that the Stratocasters made in Mexico were of inconsistent quality but if you tried out 4 or 5, you could find one that played almost as well as the much higher priced ones made in the US.

You might want to re-consider. I'm not sure I would recommend a graphite shaft. You can find a cue with a maple shaft in the same price range and similar quality. Most players seem to prefer the natural wood.

Why a stainless joint?

Are stainless joints generally more expensive compared to non-stainless jointed cues?

I made the mistake of using a graphite shaft for a few months while starting out.

For God's sake don't do graphite....LOLz
there are better things in life...I would find a used sneaky that someone local has...

Charger, I have an older Lucasi that I will sell you for $75 + shipping. It's nothing extremely fancy but it's a hell of a lot nicer than a graphite cue. I'll even throw in a soft case to carry it around in. The shaft on it does need to be turned but that's all that's wrong with it. Let me know if you're interested. I also think it may have a stainless joint. Ill have to check.

Easily said; there's nothing wrong if you like it. You don't buy a cue or play the game because of other people, you do it for yourself.

another quetion is i also purchased a jump cue it cost me 60 dollars and its a lucasi what are your oppinions on the lucasi jump cues

Its a decent cue. Why dont you get a lucasi playing cue to match it?

One of the reasons I prefer wood over graphite is that it is easy to work with. You can have the shaft turned down and cleaned. Im not sure this is possible with a graphite shaft. Just maintenance of the cue is more then enough reason to stay away from graphite or any shaft other then wood.

Spend a couple weeks....do some research on what is a decent cue, then go to the Pawn Shops... you will find a much better cue than what your looking at for about $50

Pawn shop is bad advise for someone who does not know what they are doing.
Many Pawn shops attempt to sell production cues for more than they cost new.
You probably won't like Graphite they tend to be sticky. no pores so power does not work. Wearing a glove is the other option.
Yes generally stainless steel joint is better with import cues.
I have a bunch of nice starter cues in the $60 range. PM me if interested.
