Just got this cue a few days ago and was told it was an old helmstetter. He told me he had it refinished, re-wrapped, and I think he said changed pin.

It certainly looks like a Helmstetter, I think the pin is the same, but wrapped has been changed, looks nice, I like it.. 
Well, I believe this is your Helmstetter model. It's model 87-6, and not only does it have a different wrap than standard, it has an entirely different joint as well. It appears to be stainless steel, unlike the "Cerosite" cited in the brochure, which is likely a compound plastic of some sort. Nice cue, enjoy the picture.

Wow, you have a Helmstetter 87-6 there. I know because that's been my player cue for 28 years. My mother bought it for me as a high school graduation present in 1986/1987 for $185, in Houston. When I got back into pool a few years ago I realized the shaft had warped somewhat, so I use an OB shaft on it now.
Your wrap is definitely changed, and you have silver in the joint area above the ring while the original was white. The color of your forearm appears darker than mine too.
My cue is all original. Here are some pics and the original catalog photo. My pin is 5/16x18 (5/16 diameter, 18 threads per inch).
