You guys came through for me last time so hopefully my luck is the same. I am trying to identify this Cue. Seller says worth is $2500 retail but im a little hesitant. Doesn't look like a 2500 cue. Would like to know the model number and approximate value. Looking to buy this but don't want to get Jipped! lol Thanks for any help

You looking to buy for resale or player....

Most Helmstetter cues since probably the 80s went from say 300-600. This one does not have that many inlays, so would have put it in the lower end of that figure when new. Richard did make hand made cues early on (which would be worth more obviously). But those would be quite older cues now, and not have the imprinted Helmstetter logo the one above has.

Google say-
lookie likey Helmstetter RH-4

not worth $2500
not worth $250
not worth muchie much
unless yhou likie likey

but, Mr. Google sometime Mr. Wrongle.

I have that same cue ask your friend if he wants to buy it from me I'll sell it for $2000! That's a $500 discount!

But seriously I suspect Adams helmstetters are worth between $200 and $500 depending on the model and condition. Closer to the bottom end though if eBay history be any guide. I think I paid around $200 or less for mine. They aren't bad players if you have a nice shaft but you could say the same thing about almost any cue.

Check out eBay they come up frequently and are quite affordable I have 4 or 5 hemsetter's and other Adams models I have grabbed over the years when it seemed like a good deal and they are mostly pretty nice cues.

I have this cue, I don't know the model #, but I won mine in a raffle, in the early 90's. Mine has a stainless joint,
retailed for $300. Hope this helps.

Please ask the guy if he's selling "the STUFF" he's on... maybe I'll buy that, but not the cue.

May be a great player, but not a collectible.

The only type of Helmstter that I would pay serious cash for is his carom cues that he
made before he got famous.

Nevertheless, Helmstters can play excellent.

Model 97-4

The cue is a Helmstetter from the 97 series Model 97-4 retail price at the time $170.

This is from their original catalog and price list. I have one NOS

The 97-4 has a stainless joint. Looks like the cue pictured does not.

I just want to know why the guy thought he has a $2500 cue unless he was just picking a random number to fleece someone.

I'll be waiting for a new member to pop in stating he was the owner of that cue and his dad got it form the hands of Mr Helmstetter himself when he was working as his gardener in 1950, that same cue was used by Minesotta Fats and Jesus when they played in 1932 during the Vietnam War. Several experts that will not be named were asked and valued the cue at "thousands".

He states that he inherited it and took it to the local "Olhausen Billiards" and the guy there that repairs cues is the one that gave him the estimate. First of all, Olhausen is the last place I would look for any info on older cues. I took my JossWest there and they couldn't even tell me what the logo was.(the sideways JW 72-80)

Sounds like the back story to every crazy priced cue

Hopefully he takes it well, it's a nice looking cue outside of the price thing.

Sounds like the back story or every crazy priced cue

It would seem logical and natural to do so, but it is unfortunate that most inexperienced people will go to their local pool hall or pool table dealer when looking for info/value on a cue .

It is there that they are given an inflated estimate which they hold tightly suspecting every subsequent person who does possess some knowledge on the cue is trying to rip them off.
