help identify meucci sneaky pete

PimpTastic
I have found what seems to be a good deal on a meucci sneaky pete with a red dot shaft. The seller claims that it is an older meucci with no markings, other than the red dot shaft. My limited research has somewhat concluded that to be at least a possibility. However I was wondering if there was anyway of telling if he is correct, as i would think that there would have to be some way of identifying it as a meucci or otherwise. Also please provide a price range for cue in good/fair/poor conditions (if possible).
Please help
thanks

Got any Pics..most like the black dot shaft better it seems..with no pics
a few dings..that red dot..175 bucks i would say..you can tell sometimes
by the rubber butt cap..theres a pair of Meuccis on ebay now for 325..the
SP appears to have the early brass pin..decent deal..lol

Stick with the black band

One of the most generic cues are the sneaky pete. The problem with people selling these as Meucci's is because they find a butt with the 5'16'18 pin thread and slap a red dot or black dot shaft on it and call it an intire Meucci pool cue which it's not.The 2 ways that I would go by are
1)Don't go by the bumper,go by the weight bolt.Meucci's have a very thick weight bolt in diameter, more than any other cues I've seen.
2)If I was to buy a Meucci sneaky ,stick to the ones that have the black band around the butt area that says Meucci, then you know for a fact that you didn't get the shaft!:groucho:Hope this helps

if you're referring to the 1 on ebay w/2 shafts, it's mine. i've already confirmed that it is a meucci. i'll have to disagree with scsuxci on getting a black band for the simple fact that those are not true sneakies. i'll take the un-banded one over the banded one any day. most must agree too as meucci has went back to the un-banded type in their newer ones. nothing against unsneaky sneakies, they have their place and i love them and have a few. i don't take them to the titty bar to hustle with them tho:)

What makes the one with the black band not a true sneaky?Between the weight bolt or blackband is the best way to know that it's a Meucci. For me the one with the black band is worth more, looks better and is no Question a Meucci.Anything else is a gamble if it is or isn't.Not saying that yours isn't a Meucci, just saying that the 2 ways I said is a gaurantee that it is.

to me a true sneaky looks like a house cue. if you can tell from a mile away it's not a house cue, it's not a true sneaky. might as well put veneers and ivory in the black bands cause they dont fool no one. i take it you have'nt ever done any real hustling, or you would know all this already.:)

First of all Meucci Sneaky Pete's have not been marked since around 1997.

The fastest way to tell if what you have is a Meucci is to remove the bumper which should be a push in style bumper with no attachment screw. Then look down inside the butt and there should be a a plastic threaded insert that the weight bolts screw into, any visible weight bolts should have an Allen screw head or a flat tip screw driver head.

Good Luck

mines got the big flat head one. they were not marked before they came out with the fugly black band one either, that i know of...

here it is.

I would prefer to find one that is OLD - VERY OLD BUT IN VERY GOOD CONDITON, with no markings, pre-black band era, IMHO, the older ones simply hit the balls better..something about the wood and/or the way it was cured...

Now, with that being said...
I have not hit with the red or black dot, so I'm out of tune with the current shafts that are available...but I have not heard any rave about being better than anything else.

And...if I were on the market, I'd be more interested in danutz, offering...than any others out there.

Another thought...is that I like to get to know whom I'm buying my products from...and to see if they are experienced with cues and billiards...many times you can tell if you trust what the seller is telling you.

Just my opinion...but i did stay at a Holiday Inn last night!

And, if I were on the market for a Meucci Sneaky...I'd be more interested in danutz's cue, to me it's worth more than any newer one.

thanks for the kind words jwe711. i'm not trying to rip anyone off by selling them a $20 ebay sneaky with a meucci butt plug here. my 1st cue was a meucci back in the 80's and it looked just like this one besides the red dot on the shaft. back then, i loved the way they hit, now, not so much. anyone that likes the way meucci's hit, i'm sure will be happy with this cue. i've showed the cue to a couple local meucci officianados and they said it's an early 80's. i've also asked about it on here, and a meucci dealer basically said the same thing. i cant find the thread, so please dont quote me on that, i think what he said was it looked like an older meucci to him. i prefer the hit of my 5/16 piloted sneaky these days:)
