is there an oil hole in the electric motor on the midsize lathe? or where are you supposed to lube it at? how often do you do it? any specific oil to use?

The bearings are not meant to be oiled. Some have used bearing spray lubricant which will penetrate into a shielded bearing, but that can also get it in the motor which would not be a good idea. That spray bearing lubricant is normally used on router bit bearings.
