Help me figure this out...

I need advice/information. This may be a stupid question, but maybe you guys can explain this:

I have a Dufferin cue (Sn. Pete) that was modified by Mike Webb (put a pro taper on it) which has a 12.75 tip radius with an Elk Master tip. The cue came a little fat so I had Mike put a taper on it. The cue has a good feel (wgt and balance I guess) which feels a little light on the tip end. Anyway, I just started playing with it and it plays very well and I think I'm going to make it my playing cue. I've compared to my other playing cues and it feels better in my hands. Other than my Meuccis, this is the on 12.75 cue I have.

Where do you guys think the feel difference comes from? The 12.75 tip radius, the lighter shaft with a fat butt (those of you who have Dufferins know about the fat butts), balance point, or something else?

Also, can someone tell me how to check the balance point of a cue?

thanks, JED

Probably a mixture of everything. It's so complicated, to me, trying to find that perfect mix of everything. Just be happy you have something you like and don't break it when you dog the 9 like I do :'(

??? If you're asking where is the balance point or how can you find it, balance the cue on one finger - that's the balance point. It's usually 6-10 inches in front of where you grip the cue.

I also have a Dufferin SP with the wood to wood joint. It plays well on the 7 ft. tables. Feels good to me, and I kind of like that 'Ping" that it makes. I also measured the tip just below the ferrule and it read 12.85...lately I've been shooting more with the Dufferin and letting the Schon stay in its case.

Lol

Welcome to 'Old Time Pool' .... :p :p

The pro taper made a slight difference. Probably took about 1/2 oz off the front. Balance the cue on your index finger. Take your thumb nail and put it dead center of your index finger when balanced. Measure from bottom of cue to the balance mark or point. Also measure from the bottom of the butt cap.

You can get used to almost any cue, but you will never find the perfect cue for you if you don't try several different brands of cues whether they are production or customs.

Which leads to another question......the Dufferin I have is Canadian made (I'm almost sure), but didn't some people from China buy them out. Also, I see Dufferins for sale on different web sites with the Canadian leaf ....are these the old ones?

I bought my Dufferin SP about 10 yrs ago at Connallys, I think it's Canadian made...rolled both the shaft & butt on a hard table and both still roll true. Don't know if it makes a difference or not, the rubber bumper on mine is round.
