I think it is time for me to buy a dedicated break cue and I've read as many posts as possible about the most popular. I'm looking for people who have actually tested more than one and can say which one performed the best. Here is my short list of cues I'm considering.

1. Mezz Power Break 2: I'm a bit intrigued by the 54" length and the Mezz reputation.

2. OB Break Cue

3. Predator BK2 shaft: I can't get past the graphics on this cue so I would end up buying a shaft to put on an old cue I have.

4. Players HXT: This seems like a good value and get a jumper as well.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I'm looking for control as well as power. I'm breaking at about 22mph now sow I'm not a huge power breaker.

I play with a McDermott stinger (NG03 that they no longer make) and I love it; the NG05 is made a little more cheaply but I notice no difference in performance. They all look good (except for the HXT (to me because it comes with a standard tip). This stuff is personal preference gl.

I have been using the Pechauer break cue and it works wonders for me and the people who I have let use it. It is front weighted so you don't need to have a big power break to get good spead. I would suggest considering that one as well.

You are going to get

a thousand opinions on this, and you will be as confused as before you asked it.

FWIW, my opinion:

low investment - J&J break/jump cue (They play like a $250 break cue)
medium investments - Gulyassy Orange Crusher (just a break cue, no jumper)
Bob Owen (Shurtz custom cues) Break/jump cue (Bob has a killer leather tip that he calls his super 'dub' that offers more control over phenolic tips, but he can put a phenolic tip on it if that is what you want).

Predator markets the BK2 as rear-weighted and Prechaur markets theirs as forward weighted. I wonder if it really matters. Has anyone experimented with effects of balance point on break speed?

3. Predator BK2 shaft: I can't get past the graphics on this cue so I would end up buying a shaft to put on an old cue I have.

I'm with you on the crappy predator graphics. That amount of ugliness shouldn't be on a pool cue.
I have no input on break cues... Several years ago I had a phenolic tip put on old cue of mine and just use that. While it works better than a house cue, I don't recommend it unless you want a really cheap option with a moderate improvement in breaks.
I'll keep an eye on this thread because I too want a real breaking cue..

I've tried many of the cues listed in the poll, I.E. Predator, Mezz, McDermott. By far, the one that impressed me the most was the OB Cue. I had not thought it would at first. My wife bought one last year at the 2011 Nationals, and I didn't want to get my break cue out, so I just used hers. What an eye opener I got. Enough so, that I got my own. (It's a one of a kind, and that's all I'm saying.)

I've let others try it, and they all seem as surprised as I was the first time I used it. It does an amazing job of transferring energy from the cue to the cue ball.

I chose the Mezz Power Break II because I own it and can say first hand it slaughters racks. As my friend said "its like cheating".

I am not going to vote but you should find someone that has a Samsara leather tip on their break cue and break a few with it. You want the control with some power and this tip gives you the best of both worlds. You can also jump full balls with it quite easily.

I am quite happy with my BK2 and have owned previously a J/J,Fury,Sledhammer, and some other random cue that I used. I do think that all those you listed are good options but consider the tip that you choose. If money is not an option just pick one of your higher end listed with a Samsara tip. If your tight on money pick a J/J with a Samsara tip. IMO

I have a Mezz power break pro with a DI Pro shaft and it is the most solid bustemupper I have ever used

For me a more even balanced cue works better on the break. My old bk2 was end weighted to all hell. I cut the bolt and moved the balance point forward about 2" where it works for me.

1. BK2
2. Tiger Impakt w/ IceBreaker tip( just got one and it feels pretty solid and breaks awesome.
