Help!! Mechanics and Stroke

I have been shooting pool for about 5 years. I have received excellent instruction from great players and I just would like to know if there are any flaws in my stroke that I am unaware of. My game has gone up and down for the last year but lately I just seemed to strengthen my game and have been much more consistent. Sometimes I cannot keep the consistency.

I just want consistency in pressure situations as well as any other time.

Please post any advice.

Here is my stroke analysis.......

From what I saw you tend to jump up, and it looks to me that your back hand is gripping the cue too tight. This is noticeable especially when you try to stroke with power.

The obvious reason your game is inconsistent is that you don't have a consistent stroke. Each stroke in the first video looked different.
One thing you should look at is where your cue is pointing after the shot is over. If it is pointing to the left of your shot line, or up in the air, you need to fix that. The goal of a proper stroke is to move the cue stick forward in a straight line. The cue should still be pointing toward your original target after you finish your shot.
This is also going to force you to freeze in your finish position, which should help with the jumping up.
Don't worry about what the balls are doing. They will do what they will do regardless of whether you are watching them or not. Concentrate on what YOU are doing.

Everything Steve said plus a pretty ugly elbow drop.
You need a shooting process to be consistent.

Thank you

I appreciate the feedback, besides the need for a consistent pre-shot routine. Can you help me out with any exercise to fix the elbow drop?

Thanks again

Relax your grip hand, and then focus on bringing it up into the side of your chest to the same spot every time.

I also noticed the small jump up. It would not be so bad if the jump up was after the cue tip impacts the cue ball, but he is jumping up before the cue hits the cue ball. This will cause some inconsistency in delivering the cue tip to the intended target on the cue ball.

Balance an object (round-ish) on top of your swing arm (between the shoulder/elbow of the back of your arm). The object should not fall off your arm when you deliver a stroke without an elbow drop.

A quarter works ok, but a shot glass really makes you work at it!

I agree with Tony MD, as you go through with your stroke you are lifting your head, this will eventually lead to a lack of control if your cueing is slightly off, and yes grip is too tight and will lead to you stabbing at the ball when under pressure situations

Hi, I would like to direct you to this video that will help not only the problem you state above but all other flaws that even some of the top coaches and players were unable to detect, check it out and if you are interested in purchasing the cue just get back to me tgwusauk@hotmail.com
video is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjNU7pQnwaI
I can tell you most people initially think it is a gimmick, until you try it and instantly pick up the faults the players are experiencing, the worlds top coach is now teaching the other top coaches on how this cue works, the top coach in Ireland now uses it as part of the coaching manual there.
