Help my game!!!

how about we play you bet what you want..
Im not the one saying that I will be pro by the end of the year, nor am I the one filling his head with it either.

It's not about my game, or yours.

You are calling me out in public, and I am declining in public.

Now on to my bet, 100 by the end of the year that Justin Harris (goingproin07) is not pro?

I will stake him in a year playing you set the reminder..
OK forget everything I said in the PM I sent you. That is not the bet I originally asked for, so why do you keep dodging it, I tell you flat out why I keep dodging yours, because I dont want to. I just want to hear you say that you dont feel comfortable betting me that he will not be pro in 07. Is that so hard?

I tried to be civil but after looking at all your previous posts there is no being civil with someone like you who constantly wants to get in your face to try and get you to play for money when you dont want to, you are just like the guys at my local poolhall who eventually piss you off to no end because you are there to just practice and they wont leave you the **** alone about money games. (yeah, i went back and read your posts AFTER I sent the PM to you asking for us to remain cool and all just we have differing opinions)

In your next post in this thread, either say yes to my original bet of goingpro07 not being pro in 2007, or say no because I will not accept any bet you want to throw at me.

I think you are just afraid of being wrong, that's why you wont bet.

You know what, forget anything I ever said to you, forget about the original bet, forget ever meeting me off the forum. You are the kind of guy I wouldnt play even if you were a sure thing. Im sick of reading your nonsense and trying to dodge the original issue, Im putting you on ignore.

There are plenty of other people here who will eat you up on this board and off of it, I will leave it up to them.

Missing Shots

If you do not have a reliable and consistent aiming system, there is no way to improve your game.

Position play is probably the most difficult thing to do in the game of pool, and requires the most knowledge. If you have access to a pro, make sure he is not just an insane feel player and that he really has good knowledge. Being a good player does not make you a good teacher.

You can do a lot towards improving your shape without ever using english, in fact if you are really trying to improve your ability to get shape I would suggest practicing for a while whithout using any english at all. just practice using the tangent line and speed control. speed control is the most important part of Cb control. After you get good using speed control and the tangent line, you should start working with follow and draw... You'll notice certain things and this is where it helps to have someone that really knows the game so you don't have to figure them out on your own. on follow and draw, the harder you hit the ball the longer the CB will follow the tangent bfore it bites. You can use this to your advantage if the tangent isn't perfect or if it's a scratch shot etc....

Eventually, it will come down to how much knowledge or feel you gain from your practice. Not how much practice you get.
This is some really great advice....hit the nail on the head here.

Goinproin07.....I don't think anyone here means to drag you down. I remember when I first started playing (10 yrs ago), I thought about going on the road as a pool hustler. It took about 1 year to realize how ridiculous that thought was. And I practiced my ass off that year. Pool takes years & years to master. There's always someone around the corner who's better than you.

Nothing wrong with that goal (going pro), as a long-term goal. You may want to set your sights on some short-term goals (top 10 player in league, winning a local or regional tournament, etc....) Don't get too serious that you get burned out, or not have fun playing.

Gotta disagree ... sure, most do, but "feel" players like Effren have been quoted to NOT have aiming systems. He may be the exception, but an regimented aiming system is not required to achieve advanced play ...

Ok...first off, my rating of a 7 is just in a local pool hall hosting 9ball tournaments on diamond tables....also, my shape has improved alot... I found that if i break a table down ( one with 9 balls on it) to 3 balls at a time, and try and set up shape on 3 balls at a time, i do alot better....example.... :"""" Shoot in the 1 ball with shape on the 2 that would leave u good shape on the 3....(sounds confusing)...pocket the 2 ball. Before shooting the 3 ball, figure out the next 3 ball set... how to get shape on the 4,5 & 6....then pocket the 3 with shape on the 4, and there is ur next 3 ball run....do this untill the rack is out.....now the problem i am having is using english to break out balls that are hidden, or stuck together. I average running the rack 1 or 2 times out of 10 games.... not to bad, but not where i wanna be.... but one thing that has really helped me is the ability to safe people....i have gotten very good at this....but anyways, thanks for all the help guys, and hopefully ill reach my goal of going pro in 2007...

Most activities whether it be sports or the arts, require about 5 years of dedicated practice before someone is ready to become a professsional.

Do not set time frames for yourself as this can discourage you if things don't work out as planned. Have an ultimate goal, such as going pro, but set smaller goals along the way. The goals I am talking about are things such as high runs.

When i started playing I set a variety of goals for myself.
-run a rack in 9 and 8 ball, then two racks, three, four, five etc.
-run 8 balls in one pocket, then 15 balls.
-run out a rack 14.1- then two racks, three, four, five etc.
-run a break of 20 in snooker- then 30, 50, 75, 100, 133, 147

I have been playin pool for about 4 months, and have a professional pool player as a coach....My game is getting extremely good (won 4 8ball tournaments and placed 2nd a 3rd in 2 9-ball tournaments... All were diamond tables and against players rated 9-12.....im only rated as a 7, but on average play like a 9....now my Q. The only thing right now really hurting my game, is shape......I practice around 50-60 hours a week, and still have no idea how to shoot shape.... I can normally run about 4-6 balls before i miss, and i miss b/c i have no shape.....Id ask my teacher for help, but i really dont wanna take away from him getting ready for the DCC.....so any advice would be greatly appreaciated..... thanx again guys...

It seems to me that you have the jist of positional play down... what it seems to me is that you do not analyze your table layout before you execute with your plan. What I mean by this is that before you shoot the one ball, do you see where your trouble spots may lie? Are there any clusters that you need to break apart? are there balls blocking pockets that I need to move? It is good that you plan 3 balls ahead, but if that is all you are doing, by the time you shoot at a higher numbered ball on the table you may have passed up a good opportunity to break or move balls around. True, a good player never wants to move a ball around, but that only applies to balls that are already free. For example, if you are shooting at the 1 ball and the 2 is hanging in a pocket, it is a good time to see if you can use shooting off the one ball to break apart a cluster that can potentially lead you to discontinue your run.
