Help needed on ding/scratch on the rail of a table

Hi! Any input would be appreciated on how i can refinish/retouch the scratch or ding on one of the rails of my gold crown. Its pretty deep. Thanks in advance!

Well, one way to fix it would be the old woodworkers trick of disguising it.
Give it a good cleaning, a light sanding, fill the void with a paintable filler, then (carefully) repaint the damaged portion to match the grain. It's a little tedious to get the paint just right but it can be done fairly inexpensively.

Of course you could also re-veneer the whole rail as well...
