HELP! Radial Pin Problem! HELP!

I got a skinny shaft!

I had Schmelke make me a SP with some different options and a radial pin. The radial pin (knock off) is about .005" larger than a Uni-loc radial pin. I bought a predator 314 and tried to screw it on and it won't match up, on top of that I backed the pin out of the butt of the cue when I was unscrewing it. Would anyone sell me a Uni-loc radial that I could just screw in where the original pin was, or will this even work? PM me if you could sell me the pin or with any suggestions, I don't want to buy a pin unless it will work. I'm just trying to avoid shipping it back and being without my cue. Thanks!

You have a couple of problems. Unless they have changed, the Schmelke radial is the Chinese radial, not the Uni-loc. If it is the same as the Uni-loc, which I doubt, installing a new Uni-loc pin will be a very loose fit in the drilled and tapped forearm. The change can be made successfully with the right equipment which I doubt you have. The forearm needs to be bored out to a larger diameter, a dowel glued in, re-bored and tapped and finally a new, correct size pin installed.

I really appreciate it, I spoke with Dave at Schmelke yesterday and he said to send it back. I was just wondering if it was something I could repair myself rather than being without my cue. Dave and the Schmelke guys are great to deal with and I know they would make it right. So I guess I'll just go that route. The crazy thing is I've got a Predator Z that fits it perfect! Thanks

Your right, Dick. We will never stop the Chinese imports as long as there are fans of them.

It might be worth noting that the thread pitch is a bit different, too.

Not to burst your bubble but if you've got a Predator shaft that fits the Schmelke/import radial pin, it won't fit the Uni-Loc Radial pin should you decide to go that route. Not correctly anyway.
Predator is aware of the difference in the pins and has sent me a tap for the Schmelke/import radial pin. The tap has seen substantial use so I'm guessing that they've made at least a few shafts with it.

From a cost perspective, you may be better off staying with the pin Schmelke installed rather than converting to the Uni-Loc Radial. I'm sure that Schmelke will continue to provide service, should you ever need it again.
