Help to identify this cue

Well I don't think it's a Mohawk I haven't seen one of those forever but if it is straight that sorta rules it out. I remember them warping really fast. I thought even early Kersenbrocks were marked some how as such. Sorry no help but I'm sure somebody will step up.
nice lookin cue though, whats the ferrel made out of?

Durn...lots of makers have done cues like that. The pin and the plastic (has the look of layered cheesecloth) aren't all that common, though.

I'm pretty sure it's not an Ernie (or a southwest).

Here are some better pics

I also forgot to mention how incredibly solid the cue hits. One shaft also has a 12.75 mm pro taper.
Here are some more pics that are a little better quality. I hope they help..

I recently purchased this cue off of eBay as an Ernie Martinez but I am not sure what it really is.

It has a 3/8x10 brass pin (it is not a 3/8x11 SW style pin like many people think).

I have had some people tell me that it might be an early Kersenbrock due to the very fat butt diameter. It could possibly be a Mohawk cue as well (I hope it isn't).

I only paid $365 so if I got taken it is no big deal.

Any type of help would be very much appreciated.

I will post more pics if anyone needs more for identification.

No SW and No EM, also no way it's a Kersh, Yes to the Mohawk and don't be so mad, Mohawks hit very solid and 365 isn't really getting to ripped off. You took a shot I am sure when you bought it you had hopes that you were ripping them off first, if not then these questions would have served you better if asked first. Enjoy the cue and take care of it, you'll get your money back when you sell it and the next guy thinks he's ripping you off.

My Dan Janes Joss has that layered cheese cloth look.
Mine was made in the 70's.

I would suggest laying the end a ruler right on top of one of the threads and don't count that thread, but count all threads out to the one inch mark, including the one at one inch. That will tell you how many threads it is. If it is 11 you hit gold. If it is 12 you probably hit Mohawk or SW knock off. If you hit 10 I don't have a clue what you hit, but it won't be Mohawk or South West.

It counts 10

Thanks Chris, you have a great site. I ordered some buffalo horn ferrules from you a while back and was very impressed with your service and product.

I am 100% sure it is a 3/8x10 pin because I had a local cuemaker use a thread measuring tool and it came up 3/8x10 + 3/8x10 JPs also work on this cue. I know it isn't a new Southwest because the shafts will not not fit on my friends new Southwest. I doubt Jerry Franklin ever used a brass 3/8x10 pin way back when but you never know.

Omen?

Could it be an older Omen, before he started putting "Omen" on the pins. I don't know if he ever didn't, but it kind looks like his work. Just a shot in the dark.

My guess....

In the mid 90's , J&J brought in cues from Taiwan that looked exactly like southwests, the one exception, the brass pin was 3/8-10 not 3/8-11. They had 5 or 6 different models, and I'm pretty sure, one of the models was a dead ringer for your cue. I don't know if they still bring them in, but when they first started to bring them in (the first year) they were brought in un labeled (no sig).

I would say, J&J made in Taiwan, brought into country about '94/'95, retail price new, $125

You could probably contact J&J to see if I'm right, their website is www.jjcue.com

Hope I'm wrong.

Hi,

I knew Ernie pretty well, and was familiar with his showcase and post showcase cues. I don't think that the cue that you have is an Ernie, however anything is possible. He did use 3/8th 10 pin on occasion, however the rubber plug in the butt does not look like the one that he used. I too recently purchased a cue off of ebay that was touted to be a Showcase cue. When I took it to Showcase, they said that it was definately not one of theirs. This particular cue had features that are similar to yours...
3/8th 10 pin
Southwest style ringwork

I'm pretty sure that my cue is not an Ernie cue, but I don't think it is a taiwan cue either. I definately got ripped off since the cue is now an "unknown". Plus it is slightly warped and has a distinct buzz in the forearm. You can view it under my ebay user name of....straightpool85

One a side note, this was my first really bad experience on ebay...it just reminded me that not everyone is honest and you really have to be careful what you purchase on ebay.

The rubber plug in the butt was replaced

I took it to a local cuemaker and he said it was definitely custom made (he can't figure out what it is either. He said it might be a kersenbrock, but he was just guessing).
Here are some pics of the bumper
Thanks, I appreciate everyones help and suggestions so far ( BTW anyone going to the cue show in Park City, Utah this September?)
