Hey was wondering if you guys had some info on this old Brunswick.

Spliced shaft looks pretty awesome. Want some opinions on value? Just a ballpark value. Let me know what you guys think 🤔

i think it may be a first or second gen Brunswick??

It looks like a Brunswick Merry Widow 1920s based off the label however it appears someone has modified the joint as they usually had a skinny long pin in the shaft from what I understand. I'd guess its worth 5-700 if its straight and doesn't have cracks in the joint.

WOW
How do you know the joint details from this photo?
Not attacking you. Just wondering how anyone could know this from the evidence.

I'm a total novice at this stuff.
Trying to learn it though.

The pin is in the butt which sometimes happens if the glue fails and it gets stuck however theres a collar on the shaft which is a giveaway that its been modified.

Model 28, The Merry Widow cue

The decal shows the age is 1910s-late 1920s

In this condition, take any offers over $400 and RUN

What does "first or second gen" mean? 😂

Well I'm going to use it as a player... Probably put a keilwood shaft on the end...since the joint is already modified if I wanted to have a cue maker add a ivory hoppe ring in the butt would that decrease the value down the road?

Completely. If you want a player in place of this, PM me

I pick this cue up for $200... I think it was a good buy! But I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder... I understand that the joint has already been modified but does the shaft look original?

If the cue is straight its a great buy, shaft could be original or not. You should post detailed pics when you get it to better assess the details.

Ok here are some updated pics.... Do you guys think this is the original shaft and
joint /pin ? I'm thinking about restoring it but just not sure yet. What would you guys do?

I do think it is the original shaft but as you know now it's modified, joint pin removed and
piolet added w/ a collar. It really affects the value of this cue 50-75%, this is just my opinion
as I am not an expert.

After seeing better pictures I'm not convinced the updates weren't done by Brunswick. The joint and pin are virtually identical to a later master stroke, joint material is the same and the collars are the same and it looks very well done. The shaft could be a replacement by Brunswick that was done at the time of the updates or original modified to fit the joint, don't know that anyone can verify that. If it was my cue I'd keep it as is and play with it from time to time, only thing I'd have done is clean the wrap and put a new tip on. Overall it looks like a solid classic Brunswick that has improved aspects that make it more playable and durable as the early joint style was prone to all sorts of issues.

Thanks fellas ...3 main questions

1. Will it appreciate in value in the future? Say 10 years from now?

2. the wrap is completely tore up and ripped the pictures don't show this. I'm going to have to replace it and the ferrule. I was thinking about replacing wrap with cork? Or what material should I use?

3. With that being said is it safe to say this is a $500 cue after I make repairs? It's pretty darn straight

1) It may, but the real money is an all original one, they can be worth a lot. When you modernize a cue
like this it really hurts the value drastically.

2) At this point put on what you like, cork would be nice or Leather.

3) To the right person, I would say yes.
