I understand that each ferrule material plays slightly different and that each is subjective to the player on what they like.

The main ferrule types I've found on this site are LBM, Aegis, Juma, Elforyn, Micarta and Ivory. Have I missed anything else?

What are some of the characteristics of each of these and in your personal opinion what is the best to play with? I'm having a cheap sneaky built as a players cue with a wood joint. I like a medium hit... i don't like a ping to my shot, but I want to feel some response. I will probably be playing with a Elk Master tip.

Thanks!

If you like a medium hit with good response & will be using an ElkMaster, go with an LBM. Aegis is a brand of LBM. LBM is hard & lively, which is a good candidate for a medium hit given the soft tip it'll base. With the tip you chose, no need to worry about "pingy". Any softer material will leave you with too cushy of a feel if medium is your goal.

Another good medium is micarta with Triangle tip.
