help with hardness testing

I don't like all of the complaining about different rails and balls, but I'm interested in having an answer if someone asks if balls are softer, tips are harder, rails are stiffer, etc.

Has anyone tried a handheld durometer on balls, tips, or rails? There are different testers for different materials, does anyone know what shore hardness tester would be better for balls, tips, or rails?

You can be sure I'd use this information for good rather than evil.

You do realize that a durometer leaves an indentation in the tested piece, correct?

I think most have used the Shore D historically which may explain why pooldawg's results are different from what I recall seeing posted in other places....
