OK, so I'm trying to do my first cue with points. I built the jig in The Hightower book, but the cut is getting a little swirly. I have searched here for info and I have found some good info, but it seemed most people p.m. the good info. I know BRIANNA sells a jig for $500, but not looking to spend a bunch to do this for now. I don't want to do the stacked method. ( If I was going to do less than 3 veneers, I would assume it would be the only way). I have thought of using the table saw, or possibly the router table, but I want this to be perfect, and so far I'm having a hell of a time. Are there any other jigs out there or anyone have plans to build a different one? Any tips, tricks and info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Hi,

Before you go for mitered point veneers, you should try glueing veneers around a very square point block. It is a bit easier.

You need to make several test forearms so that you can get the point geometry correct via the angle of your table to the work piece between centers. As you cut your taper your points will retract so you may want to have apex of your cut closer to the joint end.

FYI I cut my v grooves at .925 and join the cue at .870.

Good Luck,

Rick

I once made a thread showing how, with pictures, to make a simple jig for use on a table saw that cut veneer stacks at a perfect 45 deg. perfectly every time that cost less than 5.00 to make using a standard table saw blade. I did a quick search and never found the thread and have no inclination of doing it over again. If you can find the thread or someone has the post it helps for making good mitered veneers easily.

I second that. I made a jig using pictures that Dick suplied and it works perfectly everytime. It really does cost about $5 bucks. Here is a picture of some veneer I glued up after using the jig.
