Got a new toy today, and thought the pin was a 5/16 x 14, however, my other shafts will not fit. Was hoping someone could tell what it is from the picture, or let me know how to tell myself.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Is it a Schon cue ? They have a thread that the shafts will fit other 5/16 by 14 cues like Joss but the Joss and other shafts don't screw all the way onto the Schon butt.

PS where do you play in Myrtle Beach now, I come down twice a year and a 2 old friends had poolrooms there Jaybird and David Bell .Jaybird sold out before the end of poker machines and is a great road player, Bell is a golfer and had a upstairs room along the drag a few years ago and may still own it or rent it out. Birds place was close to the Bungee jumping amusement center at about 10th ave south if I remember right. I have been to a poolroom on 17 out toward the Alligator farm headed for North Myrtle beach but can't recall the name.--Leonard

That pin looks like Scott Zachow's cues pin. Give him a call and ask him the size. It may be 5/16-18 but looks more like 5/16-14.

Yes, it is Scotts. Sent him an email just before I posted here. I have a early 90s Joss and a Mike Cochran. Both are 5/16x14, and are interchangeable between each cue. Definitely not a 14. I thought maybe 16 or 18.

Recieved email from Scott

It is a 5/16x14. But it is one that he makes himself, so he says that other 5/16 x 14's are super tight. I would say tight, I tried to put my Joss shaft on, which matches the other shafts for my Cochran, and got about 2 threads in and couldn't go any farther. At least I couldn't go farther without twisting it in two. When I took it apart, metal shavings came out  Still fits the Joss, so everything was ok, but that was a tight fit.

Maybe you already know this, but "5/16-14" means 5/16" in diameter and 14 threads per inch. Any of these dimensions (or even the shape of each thread) can be slightly off and you'll get that "tight" feeling.
