I have no idea if anyone even reads these things, but it seems like a good way to put some thoughts down for myself.
August 30, 2009.
Went to the Nip N Cue for the captains meeting for the upcoming Sunday night BCAPL leagues. I have never played in a league before, so I don't know what to expect yet. I think we have a fairly solid B team, and my game is getting back up to speed pretty fast. OUr first match will be September 13th.
After the meeting came the Sunday night 9 ball tourney. Single elimination race to 9 handicapped.
As usual, my first match was against a top level player, in fact, the same player I had down 5-0 last tourney and lost 9-5 to.
This time around he didn't let me have a lead, and I was down 7-3 at one time. I battled my way back to 7-7, but he ended up not letting me have another game. More truthfully, he let me have a couple shots at it, but I failed to execute when I had the chance. No excuse for that. I just have to learn to bear down and stay in it for the whole match.
I just had the new wrap pressed on the Helmstetter, and had one of the shafts turned down to 12.75mm and tapered long and thin, and I like the results pretty well. I ended up going with the old, familiar 314 shaft for the tourney though, because I feel more confident with it playing 9 ball. The work was done by Dan Trogdon, and I am thrilled with the work, the price, and the service. I will probably have the other Helmstetter shaft turned to 12.5, which is what I think the Predator is. I just don't like the feel of a big shaft anymore.
Tomorrow is the open 8 ball tourney. I'll probably pull out the GW for that one. I love the ring of that cue when it hits. I may have to have Trogdon make me a spare shaft for that one in a 12.5mm, because being a Chinese cue, I don't feel confident in putting money in the stock shaft. I have no idea how well seasoned the shaft wood might be, so why pay to modify it when I can spend a few more $$$ and be sure of what I've got.
That's all I got for now. Thanks for reading if you did.
