Cuetechasaurus asked me a tough question, about Accu-stats best matches and maybe some gambling matches. I hope to really enjoy this type of posting but I am through defending myself when I'm practically always historically right and I like everyone in the billiard world.
Accu-stats: Maybe the Buddy Hall vs Reyes match at one of my Baton Rouge tournaments, then the Davenport vs Mizerak 9 Ball match where it almost perfectly played by both combatants, a 14.1 match where Jack Colavita and I did the commentary- Pat Fleming will know which one it is,
Jimmy Fusco vs Varner player review at One Pocket, my 14.1 match vs Dallas West where I have a two inning game, and there's my match where I was lucky enough to defeat Buddy 11 to 0 ( it only lasted 35 minutes) all right- yes I'm proud of that, nobody else ever did that.
Gambling, well I don't know where to start, there have been so many great contests. Firstly, allow me to say that any top player can play "lights out" when everything is going his way. I'm looking in my memory for special occasions where our stalwarts battled back from terrible defeat.
One time my old friend Doc Watson lost the first 12 games in a row to Black Danny, $2,000 a game but Doc fought back and some two days later had all the cash.
I've told this Weldon Rogers story before but it bears repeating. He was playing Johhny Edwards in Bowling Green,KY an 8 ahead set for a couple of thousand bucks. Weldon lost the flip and Johnny ran the set out. Instead of quitting Weldon and our mutual friend Will Willingham doubled the wager and Junior got the cheese.
I loved the snooker match in San Francisco on the 6X12 between Denny Searcy and Cliff Thorburn. They played 48 hours to a virtual draw.In all fairness snooker was played with one or three red balls with American balls and rules, all of which Cliff wasn't used to. On the other side of the coin Denny never owned a snooker cue and in fact didn't know such a thing existed.
I hope these whet your appetite for a while and I'll talk to you later, Grady
