If anybody has the book "Running the table" by Wortheim,I wanted to share this with you in case you didn't know.You might know this already,but here goes.
At the outset of the book,Kid and Bob meet 007 and he steers them to Warsaw,Indiana to play Bucky Bell.To make a long story short,they end up going there and getting action.The place is owned by a guy named Earl,but the name of the poolhall is never mentioned....or is it??Hah hah,this is the gem.I caught this while reading the story.I will explain how I know this later.
If you notice when Bob first gets action from the kid with the Metallica shirt on,they play for a small amount of money.Or,as they word it, the "just for fun" bet.Well,that's the name of the poolhall,'Just for Fun'.
Here's why I know.My girlfriend lives in Ohio and we meet halfway sometimes.One of the times we met was in Warsaw.It was,just as the book describes,a small town with little to do.I was asking all around about things to do.I asked a girl in the McDonalds if there were any pool halls in town.She told us about this place called 'Just for Fun' and gave us directions.We got in the car and searched for it.We never did find it.I am ticked now because the book describes the place on the inside to some degree of detail.It would have been even more intruiging had I been in the place and been able to recall some of the things the book described.
Anyway,for what it is worth,I thought some of you guys would enjoy that tidbit.I know I posted a few weeks ago about my run-in with them 2 a long time ago and it seems fishy,but I am being dead serious.I guess these are just some strange coincidences happening in my life.I thought it was clever how the writer got the name of the poolroom in there without saying it really.Good stuff
