Hey Fat Boy

Think the last West Coast Swing was in 2018? Miss going up to California Billiards and seeing the top pros.

Covid has decimated the pool scene in the South Bay Area. The only 2 rooms left before the Covid are now gone. This area is ripe for a well run pool hall, but I doubt it will happen with the cost of real estate.

Maybe Chris from California Billiards will see an opportunity to open California Billiards South Bay? A man can dream.
Hi Dave. South Bay is definitely hurting for good pool. That said, there is new place in Sunnyvale, 946 Billiards, 20+ Gandy 9 ft tables that play Ok. Hardware & owner is from the old Santa Clara Billiards. Opened last year in midst of heavy Covid time believe it or not. Clean, decent beer, good music, & convenient but overpriced, mostly date night crowd & league types, not much action yet. But I’m good action 😘

Thanks.

When @duckie mentioned a billiard place in Sunnyvale, I thought he was referring to Lucky Shot that has the furniture tables, and is located down the stairs from the street. Guess he was referring to 946.

Yeah, I remember those tables from Santa Clara Billiards. We used to call that place Santa Clara Buckets because the pockets were so big. Plus, they never really put much money back into the tables. It was nice in a pinch late night.

Will go check out 946 when the mask mandates end. At least it has a big bar if nothing else.

Still holding out hope for a nice pool room in the South Bay with good equipment. Driving up to Cal Billiards is a PITA being it is a half hour and the 880 traffic.

Thanks again for the tip.

Yeah, Lucky’s is (or was) open, but its horrible.

946’s tables are actually set up pretty nice. Table #23 is the 1p table, has 4.0” pockets, table #18 has 4-1/8” and rest have 4.5 ish. They don’t play bad. Also one 6x12 snooker monster. Mask policy in place, but I get by with 1/2 bandana, not too bad. You should stop by, I won’t bite 😁 PM me if you want to hook up, I play a little of everything, master of none.

I was referring to lucky shots . I didnt know about 946 until recently.

Also it looks like Edgies isnt closed for good. There is some remodeling going on and a sign hanging out side about opening soon.

I havent touched a cue in 1 1/2 years. It sucks.

Interesting, because Edgies was selling its tables on Facebook not too long ago.

Yeah, I haven’t played in about 2 1/2 years, and would not be a good match up. Thanks for the offer. Go up to California Billiards if you want action.

When my home renovation is done, I will have a nice 9 foot table, and then I will be competitive again. Too many work hours to get serious now.

Says on Yelp it may be open 1st week of December. Owner is Yi-Ching C.

I haven’t played in 6-7 years competitively. Maybe 5 hours in the last 5 years. But I’m getting itchy to play a little again.

I see. I play at CA Billiards also, and bars. Looks like you don’t get out much. Well, if you guys ever decide to take a break from the Internet and play some pool in the real world, maybe we’ll see you around. Cheers

A break from the internet? LOL

It is called a busy life where heading down to the pool hall or a bar does not take priority, especially during a pandemic.

I salute you if your game is at top speed, but just realize there's more to life than the pool hall. My job, family and bank account will always take precedence. ;)

Indeed, fam work and life always higher priority. Not sure why you’re assuming that I’m a degenerate at top of my game, etc... After a 25 yr break, I just started hitting balls again last year myself. I just jumped into this thread since you seemed to be lamenting on no where decent in south bay to play pool. Seems to me the problem is more that virtual pool has replaced real pool... most folks seem more interested in debating ideologies/politics vs playing pool, but what do I know.

Peace & love brother

Never called you a degenerate, but nice try.

Ok, I guess you are the undisputed winner of whatever conflict you imagine that we’re having here. Your post count is quite impressive, clearly I can’t hang with this crowd. Sorry to apparently irritate you, so much for the concept of hooking up with local pool players to you know, play pool. Thanks for the stimulating conversation and best wishes getting your home table sorted out. Cheers
