Hello Mr. McCready, my name is Derek Moore, and we're doing a project in my Calculus class. We have to do this report on how trig is used in the "real world," and I chose pool. So, we have to interview a pro, so would you mind if I asked you a few questions? They are:

1)How long have you been playing pool?
2)How often do pool players use trigonometry in their game?
3)When using the trig, how do you determine the correct angle?
4)Being so good at trig, do you ever use it outside of pool?
5)On average, how much would a professional pool player make?
6)How long did it take for you to be able to do the all of the math in your head?
7)Does someone teach you that, or did you have to learn from experience?
8)Do professional pool players have a job outside of pool?
9)Does being a pool player help you in any other areas of profession?
10)Finally, would you prefer any other profession that uses trig?

Thank you so much.

Derek Moore

altho i cant speak for him, im sure keither doesnt use much trig when he's playing pool :p

also you seem to be slightly misguided on professional pool players and pool

Hey Derek, unfortunately Keith is a busy guy and sometimes has problems answering questions. I’m no pro, but what’s the difference?

1) I’ve been playing pool 6 years.
2) every shot that’s not straight in
3) the book “99 critical shots in pool” by ray martin has a shot on banking that can be written in an equation
4) no more than anyone else
5) the average reported income of the top 10 ranked professional pool players is around $150,000 probably double that if you include gambling
6) under perfect conditions the concept is rather easy, but variables such as stroke and condition of the balls and table make a difference
7) both, a little instruction and a lot of practice goes a long way
8) To be a competitive professional takes practice every day. Some own poolrooms, give lessons or build cues
9) being good at anything takes discipline, discipline is the foundation for success
10) if it paid better with less hours, maybe

Hope this helps

Thank you a lot. Sadly, I couldn't get it in time, so I had to use someone elses. And as for it not being trig, trigonometry is the study or use of triangles, and I'm pretty sure triangles are used a heck of a lot in pool. Thanks again.
