High Tech Version of Pool

Doesn't really appeal to me, but I'm not sure I fully understand what they are doing from the article. Some pictures or a short clip would have helped.

Topgolf is a joke. It’s a bar with a halfassed driving range. Once was enough. I’ve played in school and college and wouldn’t let my kids go anywhere near this amusement park.
 
All players want to pocket balls, not make lights blink.

The only thing that I could think of that would work is a special table with mechanical varying pocket sizes. The pockets reduce in size for better players when it is their turn. Expensive. It would be similar to bumper rails in bowling, which allow beginners to feel satisfied knocking pins over with low skill.

We want a way for beginners to run a lot of balls with a training wheel, not substitute it.
