Just received an 08' full-splice cue from fellow Az'er SeanC. Have heard good things about Darrin's cues but this is the first i've seen or hit. Cue is a beautiful cocobolo 4pt. full-spice with curly points and green and black veneers. Construction is first-rate with super sharp points and veners. Cue closely resembles a Southwest with same type rings and 3/8x11 brass pin. Hit wise, it's firm without being i-beam stiff. Balance is perfect, not too much weight either way. If you're considering a Southwest but don't want to spend as much or wait as long, try one of Darrin's cues. Very nice

Hi,

Darrin makes and machines his own pin. It is a modified 3/8" x 10 TPI with a very special thread pitch and minor interface that he engineered and machines on a dedicate old school lath he dialed in for that operation only. When you screw Darrin's cue together, the fit is a perfectly uniform and firm joining right down to the facing of the cue. It is very cool indeed.

As far as the full splice thing goes, he has refined his methods to a real art form and IMHO he is in a select group of cue makers in rarified air who have gone in the full splice direction with veneers.

Enjoy your cue.

Rick
