Pagulayan.

Saw him beat Fong Pang Chao 11-10 in the 2004 WPC in Taiwan against a partisan crowd who had earlier (in hill-hill) in the game cheered lustfully when Alex had hooked himself. Alex had been parked in his seat for over 1/2 hour as Chao ran off 5 straight racks to tie the match. Alex made a clutch long bank and then later hooked himself. He then kicked off the rail made a ball and cooly ran out showing extreme heart. It was a classic game and match for sure.

I saw that match as well. I remember that particular shot where he couldn't bridge ok on the rail because of an akward angle. His hands shook so much! He was so nervous it made me turn my eyes the other way!

But he pulled it off! Pagulayan is probably the toughest man to beat out there today. When he gets that will to win that I see in Archer, or Souquet, forget it!!!

If it's any player in their prime, I just can't see selecting ANY player other than Earl to break and run out 1 rack. I have to wonder if any player alive has broke and ran more racks than him (on a 9' table).

They showed Earl on ESPN classic yesterday and he scratched 5 times in a match of 7-ball against Mika. Earl is one of the greatest ever but he still plays loose position and makes mental errors sometimes. Give him a chance to catch his top gear and he's as good as anyone- with only one game left I like guys who play a little more conservative.

You may be right there. It seems as though Earl tends to take himself out of it more often than not when the pressure mounts. When he played Archer (Glass City maybe?) a few months ago, he bet himself! Earl's inability to remain level-headed and calm would take him out of contention for me.

I say with a tight rack, I'd bet everything I have on Corey running out off the breack. Pagaluyen is a good choice and so is Hohmann. I've always been a huge fan of Chao. And let's not forget the kid, Cia-Cheng Wu, breaking and running out 5 straight racks to win the World Championship in Taiwan this past year. Surprised no one else has mentioned him yet!

Not too sure about Hohmann, especially on making a straight-in 8 ball to win a hill-hill match against Chia Ching Wu.

But seriously tough, Hohmann is a good choice. I think that one instance in last year's World 8ball Championships is as flukey as they get.

I personally would pick Alex over anyone.
