Anybody had a hip replacement done and then played pool afterwards?
Does it affect the way your standing for shooting or anything else ? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I just got hit with this last week and I'm trying to decide what to do. Whether to get it done now or wait, Painful now and gimping alot. Sometimes alot worse then other times.

Had both hips and a knee replaced. Now I play without pain.

Warning: Get it done now. One bad hip leads to another if you wait.

I agree

Randy G is right; I also had hip surgery, but limped and hobbled around painfully for quite a while because I wanted to put it off.......but after I finally got it done, it's been a great relief and I regret the procrastination which caused me a lot of needless pain........make sure you tell your surgeon to use the best materials so that the replacement won't have to be replaced! Everything is like new today, and I'm very happy with it....Of course you'll need a recovery period, but I don't think it will affect your pool playing afterward...

both done

I've had both replaced [2003 and 2009] and play just as badly [but no worse] than before.
As far as timing of when to get it done, when I asked my doc when to do it, he said, "you'll tell me when, and it will be when you can't stand the pain any more." The longer you wait, the longer the rehab, the weaker your muscles are from not moving, and the more likely it is that you screw up the rest of your mechanics compensating for the weakness and pain. you'll be amazed at the improvement and mad that you waited so long.......

me too

I also got the same type of response from my doc; he said, "when it's time, you will be the one to tell me"......Like my knees also are evidently afflicted with osteoarthritis, it's just waiting til the pain is so consistent and severe that I will go and tell him I need it done.......

Thanks again everybody for the replies and the pm's.

I know it won't improve my game, but I just wanted to hear whether or not I'd be able to walk around the table alittle faster so I could miss quicker. lol

I had both hips replaced, one 5 yrs ago and one two months ago. Pool playing doesn't enter into the equation regarding the decision. Depending on the individual, you should be back to normal which is far, far better than living in pain. The reasons that doctors tell you that "you will tell me when it's time to replace" rather than the doctor telling you, is that it's serious surgery and it's a quality of life issue, not a life-threatening issue, e.g., cancer.

Best of luck with your decision and, if you go that route, the surgery.
