Hockey lockout - An opportunity for Pool?

As I got tired of hearing ESPN saying there could be an NHL lockout till the day they did announce there was an NHL Lockout, I thought this could be an opportunity for pool? I was thinking if all the pool fans email ESPN asking them to sponsor more pool tournaments and put it on tv, I think they might be surprised by the number of us, pool lovers, and they might? What's everyone's take on this? SHould I start writing an email?

Notice how nobody cared about the hockey strike? Pool is less popular. That's how I think ESPN will react. Sorry, but the hockey lockout won't affect pool much, if at all.

Seems probable that the hockey lockout means more pool on TV, so maybe it will create an opportunity for pool.

Either way, I know a bunch of us e-mailed ESPN last month thanking them for showing a large amount of pool last month and asking them to continue to do so. I think it was JAM who started the thread....so search her threads for the addy. I don't suppose another flooding would hurt.

*EDIT Here is the link to the original thread, FYI. *EDIT

There are a few upset folks around here I'll tell ya !

BTW, it was a lockout, not a strike. And many NHLPA members are now playing professional hockey for other leagues. Funny how these 'stars' will play for a few $100K when their $2M gravey-train goes off the tracks ....

they gotta afford their expensive cars and mansions somehow!

Did not mean to offend any hockey fans, but I just thought it might be a very small opening for pool to get more exposure. I know that it's not as popular as hockey, but it be nice to see pool get more sponsorship and popularity so that pool players can get a decent wage. I too am tired of hearing all these big time athletes wanting more money. Honest, I feel that today's athletes in the most popular sports like basketball, baseball, and football are playing strictly for the money. I am a big basketball fan. Unfortunetly, after the dream team 1 retired, I felt the game got boring. I do not see much passion for the game in today's players anymore. I just thought if pool gets more exposure, that some corporations might want to invest their money to a more appreciative pool player than a spoiled basketball player. Just my two cents anyway.
Thanks for sharing your opinions.

They need more footage, all I ever see is the same tournaments over and over again US open 03 /World pool masters/ World champ. If they gave up more air time we'd probably just get a heavier dosage of the same thing.

I guess it as a matter of what is filmed. Isn't the Joss Tour being recorded for broadcast now?? It would also be sweet if Accu-Stats and ESPN or Fox got together to broadcast those matches, but then I guess Accu-Stats could potentially be losing out on some revenue.
