Hohman Defeats Strickland

Woe is me. The mighty Earl has struck out.

Well it was fun while it lasted.

Since 2001 Hohman has won a total of $18,000.

jj,

I respect Earl's ability to play great pool, but that is all. He makes an ass out of himself way too much.

1) Pro Billiards in Orlando 2002. He got in a verbal arguement with Bruce Katz for calling the spectators names I can't post here while he was playing a match. It about led to a physical fight before it was over, Earl started to wrap up his cue and Charlie Williams begged him to stay(that's what Earl really wanted was the attention). I was sitting next to Bruce when that happened.

2) Planet 9-Ball in Tampa, Fla Tour 2000. Earl got mad at some kid that he was playing. Won the match and quit the tornament. A person had spent over $400 for him in the calcutta. Nice Guy Huh? I was playing 2 tables down when that happened.

I could list more things that I personally watched at other tournaments, but it would take up a lot of space and he isn't worth that much attention to me.

Earl can sure enough be a real pain. I've seen him at several tournaments over the years now and while I respect his talent, his temperment leaves way too much to be desired. He's like a car accident alongside the freeway, people like to watch to see if they can see any gore. It's a real shame that people waste their time looking at him. You're right Ruthless, he isn't worth spending that much time on. And, unfortunately, I think he gets a kick out of the attention. He should be made to act like a gentleman and whenever he doesn't, he should be told to leave immediately. He might change his ways and just show us his brilliance on the pool table then.

Ruthless,

Well, Earl had to settle for a $17,500 pay day. That's $16,850 more than I have won so far this year. LOL.

As far as Earl in Orlando last year he was a crowd pleaser on saturday and came from behind 0-4 to beat Charlie. Everywhere he went people were talking with him, even while he was playing. And when he played, the people were packed at the rail to watch him.

The only problem on saturday was that guy who thought some player should stop playing and give him an autograph. Why wasn't he shown the door? And how about the several players, not Earl, who stopped playing and went toward that guy ready to knock him on his ass?

I didn't go there Sunday but I heard that some upstanding individual keyed Earl's car. That may sound like a minor thing to you until you realize how much the repair bill is. Plus you have to waste a day out of your life to get it fixed and be without your car for two to three days.

Two cars at a Bingo where I worked were keyed. Mine and another persons. My bill was $450 - the other person's $1,250.
I imagine if stuff like that would happen to you then you would be pissed too.

Now I wasn't there Sunday but I heard that when it came time to pay off Earl after he was eliminated Charlie didn't have the money ready. And he couldn't get it for several hours, or it would be mailed. What was that all about? And that was when Earl left disgusted, removed his UPA patch, and deposited it in the garbage can on his way out. Since you played in the tournament perhaps you can correct me if I have the facts wrong.

Earl may not be an angel, but he is not the demon that a lot of people are trying to make him out to be.

And the next time you play I will heckle you and we will see how well you can handle it. Or will you lose your cool? And your using the moniker "Ruthless" while waving a pirate flag does not lend one to believe you are a country gentleman who would repeatedly turn the other cheek. LOL

jj,

As far as the arguement with the spectators goes, it was over Earl calling them losers because they clapped over someone other than Earl for making a good shot. Earl made a decent (not real hard shot) after the other player did and didn't get any applause. That is when he started the "I'm Earl the Center of the Universe" act like he does. As far as his car goes, that must have happened much later. His payout was to be paid along with the rest of the players and he got mad because they wouldn't bend and give him special treatment by paying him seperate. You may be an Earl Fan for his playing, but you must not know him very well. If he is not the center of attention it drives him mad. In other places where they don't have the top players stacked up like Florida, he may get that attention. But when you see Hall of Famers and US Open Champions playing as much as you do here, Earl is just another player in a crowd of many. He has never done well in FL on a consistant basis because he gets beat. Also you could check with ownership at Planet 9-Ball and I don't think he gets invitations sent anymore. They were trying to get a vote to ban him from playing FL Tour events because of his actions.

I have given him undo attention again and will drop this post. But I do hope you get to see how he really acts sometime.

Good Luck and Hit them Straight :)

(also nobody would have a reason to hekle me, I can take losing like an adult, shake the winners hand, tell them they shot well, and then I can try to improve the mistakes I made to try again another time.)
