Hohmann Wins it!7-0

Woohoo! Hohmann is on fire... When you shoot 125 and out consistently in 14.1 EPC, 9-ball is a joke...

5k V-Beans! Down to the Steakhouse 2nite!

Wasn't it alternate break?

Did he really shoot a 1000 (perfect) Accu-Stats rating? That's phenomenal!

I don't know how accu stats rates but he did run out of position on a 7 ball and then he played safe. In another frame he attempted to carum the 9 ball and he got lucky to hook archer after missing it. But other than that he certainly didn't do much else wrong, almost perfect play from what I saw.

I actually recorded the match from the stands, might put it online if I get chance this week :-)

That would be awesome! First Thorsten wins the EPC 14.1 title and now this...he's been on fire for the last month or so.

Great idea, The One. Now that's the type of illegal stuff that should be legal! Let us know...

1000

I think there is only 1 recorded accu tape of 1000, and if im not wrong its mika who does it.

I was probably wrong. Officially he probably didnt shoot 1000 but very close. He did miss that carom- i had forgotten that.

Yes, in rack four, Hohmann had a miss but got away with it. Still, his play in this event confirmed what I, and seemingly more than a few others, already believed prior to the event. It's quite possible that he's the best pool player not named Efren in the world.

Sjm, I've felt that way for a while now, but I would change the name "Efren" to "Alex"...

Pagulayan's credentials are just not sufficient by my standards. Yes, he has a first and a second in the WPC and a second in the US open, but his list of titles is a very short one for anyone wishing to be considered the best.

Hohmann, still very young, in the last two years alone:

...won the 2003 world championship (beating Alex in final)
...has a second place in the 2004 US Open
...has won the 2005 BCA Open title
...dominated a very elite field at the 2003 NJ Straight Pool Campionships
...dominated the straight pool event at the 2005 European Championships

I haven't said this about any player in twenty years, but this guy is bringing back memories of Mike Sigel.

Alex is great, but Hohmann is better. Efren is better yet, beng the world's best eight ball player, the world's best one-pocket player, and one of the world's best nineball players.

But the Efren Reyes era is surely gradually drawing to a close and, to me, Hohmann may soon be known as the world's best pool player.

There were at least two I believe! Wade Crane was the first to score a 1000 in the finals of a tournament back in the early 80's I believe, shortly after Accu-stats conception. Also I witnessed Jay Swanson's 1000 in some of the most gruelling conditions a pro tournament has ever been played! It was at the "Tamo-Shanter" in Ohio back around 1986 IIRC. The venue was booked in the winter, the tourney took place in mid summer. No one asked if the "Tamo-Shanter" center was airconditioned! It wasn't~ ! In the flyers advertizing the tournament, they listed the players dress code as being "Semi-Formal". Some people showed up with Tux's, and other dress clothes. It was quickly changed to "casual", and most wore shorts and whatever they were somewhat comfortable in. The temperatures rose above 90 degrees and it was brutal! Jeannie Balukas beat Steve Miserak handily, 11 - 5, I believe the score was. Steve's physical condition was no match for the athletic Balukas! As a side note, some players claimed they were "sharked" by "Tamo-Shanter" workers who were chasing BATS around the venue swinging brooms at them! LOL
It was a memorable event, but the only one at the "Tamo-Shanter"! LOL

Pat Fleming told me that a few Accu-stats matches in which the race was to nine were on record in the early years of Accu-stats, but that it took until 1996 (sorry, can't remember who played in it) until somebody shot a 1.000 in a race to eleven or longer.

Agreed SJM but do you know there was one weirdo telling people that Marlon Manalo was the best player in the event??Man does this guy need to get a clue!!

Not sure who said that, but I'd never seen Manalo before, and would have to say that he played pretty oridnary pool in the two matches of his I watched, the win over Robles and the loss to Roschowski. He's obviously a great talent, and I hope to see him play his best somewhere down the road.

Was nice seeing you in Vegas. Have you recovered from having seen me sitting at the poker table yet?

All in all, have to say that I had a grand old time at the BCA Open. Got home to NYC this morning, and I already miss my pool buddies. Didn't sleep well on the redeye, but Tony Robles helped me avoid passing out at the baggage claim.

I just have to say that the Germans have some great players-

Hohmann
Souquet
Engert
Rachkowski
Ortmann

How would you rank them? Mine is as above but it is not easy.

BTW-Rachkowski was the guy who had Efren 2-0 in his first or second match at the DCC in One Pocket. He really should have won it. If he had, Efren would have been unlikely to have won the All-Around.

Yes SJM - I recovered- a lot of mouths were wide open when i reported what i had seen though.

Speaking of Tony though- I just don't understand him not wanting to play in Taiwan, especially since he has new sponsorship. What does he aspire to? Giving the most Lessons in the City?

Ortmann gets more respect from me than this because he was ranked #1 on the Eurotour for 2004.

Hohmann
Souquet
Ortmann
Engert
Roschkowski

Also, let's not overlook Thorsten Schober, who reached the last sixteen in the last WPC.
