What did you use for wood? Is that MDF or plywood? I'm thinking about making one and looking for ideas

I made one a couple of years ago. I used cheap carpet like this. It works just fine. I glued it to the rim of the bucket. not sure how it would adhere to plywood though. Eventually, it came unglued. My next idea was to line the thing with the fuzzy part of an industrial strip of velcro like this. That worked and is still adhering pretty well after more than a year and a half. But again, I guess your application is different. I ended up just getting the Diamond ball polisher, as the bucket contraption kinda sounds like a helicopter taking off.

Cheers and best of luck,

JL

I have made about 60 of these polishers and the carpet that works best is indoor/outdoor short pile tight knit.

If you do a search for "home made polisher" with my name, you can get more info.

simply green to clean for a couple minutes then meguires car wax to polish for five minutes...I have a bucket with tight weave indoor carpet and I scored the bucket with a knife before glueing the carpet on...also put 10 inch polisher on bottom and and and on top to clean much better...

don't forget to cut hole in bottom of pail for air to keep lower polisher cool

Carpet is probably the worst thing you can use. Stay away from any poly type fabrics. If you can get some wool fabric polishing pads.

Isn't carpet what Diamond uses in their polisher? What would you use to mount the carpet to the spindle and outer ring and I'm guessing the bottom

might be but you wouldn't polish your car finish with carpet i dont think.

It's two different finishes so it's quite possible two different materials to polish are needed

Good to know. Looks like the stuff is anti-static as well. I get tons of dust adhering to the balls in the winter due to dry air and static cling. Sometimes the balls look like they have fuzz on them after ten minutes of playing. I think it's the friction from the phenolic balls rubbing against the cloth that causes the static. It's OK, though, I get to blame all my undercuts on skids.

That's a pretty cool design. I saw a YouTube vid of one and I'm going to make one for myself.

It looks like it gets the balls going pretty good, and the separator keeps them apart so they don't wear on themselves like many of the bucket polishers do. I was originally going to rip off the Diamond design, but I really don't need anything that complicated and expensive to build.

I can figure out all the measurements myself, but if it wouldn't be too much of a hassle it would be nice if you could post them here.

I was thinking the same I'm going to attempt one of these myself it shouldn't be to hard or expensive, what are you going to use to drive your sprocket

circumference over the balls with a 25mm gap between each = 657mm

square = 350x350 mm
inner circle = 210mm (diameter of 657mm)
outer circle = 267,2 mm (+1ball length)

These measurements did NOT take in consideration a thick carpet around the edges, so i think i will put the carpet it in the bottom and use some thin fabric elsewhere.
just remember to add the thicknes of the carpet

I was thinking of using a crank? my english is quite bad:P to spin it manualy with a handel, think this will look the best.

agree, indoor outdoor carpet. I use Brunswick Ball Polisher liquid stuff.

I used indoor/outdoor short pile carpet from Home Depot with Aramith Ball cleaner/polish. I glued the carpet on with Weldwood Contact Cement.

terhje, I advise you don't forget to put a crease in the bottom pad, so that the balls bump in it during rotation and turn. Otherwise they will spin around only one axis and won't be cleaned all over the surface.
