I know I should have put this on the tail end of the other thread, but I did not want anyone to have the same problem as me:
Got my lathe built and first thing I did was melt a ferrule and my finger. Just wanted let everyone know that 1500 sandpaper will burn up a ferrule quick. Good thing it was a practice stick. After learning that, and how much heat a cordless drill can generate, shaping is now a breeze.
