Hopkins advice on cues

Ok.. I see alot of people tinkering with the idea of bringing cues. As an ex-vendor, (at least this year) here is some FREE advice.

If you are bringing one or two cues to deal with VENDORS its usually ok. If you bring a bazooka case and make a spectacle out of yourself you will be in for a short trip. If you are going to bring alot of cues, then leave them in your room or your car and then if you strike up a deal with a vendor, then bring it to his booth at that time. People who carry 12 x 24's are always going to get the "eye".

One thing we used to do at the show is consign for show visitors. A flat fee + % and we would exhibit the cue for them for the duration of their stay. You may want to do that and if you do, I suggest talking to Sean at Scott Murpheys booth.

Is that a good idea to leave your cues in the car? It may be a good idea if you want your insurance company to buy them.

Thanks for the tip Joe. Buddha162 (Roger) and I are planning on making the road trip together and I was curious. My case is a 4x6 and its about the same size as an Instroke 3x5. I was planning on bringing it with me as I plan on picking up a cue or two down there. Is this a bad idea? I certainly don't wanna be walking around all day with a new cue in my hands and then bump into a booth or a wall or anything and screw with the finish.
Your advice?

I think he was talking more about someone with a 12x24 case that is bringing a lot of cues to use in trading and to bargain with.

When they have Pool Shows in Las Vegas my understanding is most of the time you are not allowed to bring in stuff for Private Party Sales, or Trades.

I think the reason is one of protecting the people who have PAID for Sales Space.

Plus it is easier to Police for Pilferage

Pharaoh68,

I've been there about 5 times and have brought a 3x7 case each time. As long as you are not trying to take business away from a paying vendor, no one seems to mind. Make sure to watch after your case/cues though as it can get pretty crazy at times.

Enjoy your trip. Jerry

I collect as well as sell! I normally travel with my 12x24 case with wheels. I'm just very careful when/where I open it at. When I find a cue I like or if a dealer (with a booth) asks me what's inside, then and only then do I open it. I have never attempted to sell a cue at events like this and have not (knock on wood) been frowned upon for carrying this case. I really appreciate the heads up about this event though. I'll be hesitant to carry it with me while "window shopping" in the future.

Thanks and best of luck to all going and have a good time,
Zim

Well if they are under wraps you shouldn't have a problem. I don't know of any that were stolen out of cars.

I don't think you will get stopped with a 4*6. Depends who is in the security in the front. If its a tall curley haired chick, you can sweet talk her :)
