Very odd stroke. I have never seen him play. If I didn't know the name and watched him shoot only 1 shot, I think I would be asking him to play for $$.
 
yep,,and that odd stroke has a high run of 410 balls.Thats seven balls more then John Schmidt,who most people regard as the best straight pool player alive today,,,,Hopkins was the MAN!!!
 
never have liked his stroke (regardless of him destroying me or not) I know his skill, and if he had a better stroke, on a scale of 1-10 his being 5, Buddy Halls being a 10, if Allen's stroke was say a 7 or 8 he would have dominated pool along with Siegel, Varner, and Strickland in the 80's, or maybe he would have been tops, hard to say.

I understand where you are coming from. Allen was a great champion and a beloved one at that but clearly, his stroke...if you want to call it that, is unorthodox.

But then, so is Jim Furyck's in golf...or McCready on pool.

However, in spite of a number of championships that he holds, I tend to agree with you that he won in spite of his stroke not because of it.
