Hoppe ring and buttcap width?

I am looking to build a few conversions with bumperless Hoppe rings, black buttcaps and exposed chrome weight bolt heads. I have looked at many cue examples and note that the ivory ring is not quite as wide as the black buttcaps. Please tell me what the width of each piece should be ideally. I assume the ivory ring is 3\8 and the buttcap is 1\2 an inch.

Also any tips on building the exposed weight bolt would be welcomed. I have found a source for the flat head chrome bolts with an allen head.

Depending on the cue I sometimes change the dimensions. When building a Hoppe look. I make the ivory ring .300 and the black ring at .250. I make it up as a unit 1.5" long and .900 in diameter so that the black ring is not glued on but an integral part of the unit.

I build mine with a .250 hoppe ring and .375 buttcap unless the customer wants something different. Best of luck to you.

My preference is .250 hoppe ring and .300 butt plate.....but there's more than one way to skin a cat, as they say.

.225 Hoppe ring
.325 phenolic

After studying the matter a few years ago, these dimensions look classic to me but they are not the dimensions that Rambow used in the Brunswick Willie Hoppe.

Even .210-.215 for Hoppe ring looks good--more modern (see Omen cues). Much larger than .225 looks too "squat" or "fat" to my eyes. The thinner dimension looks a bit more elegant IMO. Lots of variation here. Do an AZB search of Hoppe style cues to help you decide.
