House cues

I bought several cases recently only to learn that there are steel rods epoxied into each butt. I’ve been mostly unsuccessful trying to remove the metal without damaging them.

Also, are there any currently manufactured house cues that are worth converting? I’ve searched previous topics but only see talk of old Brunswicks mostly.

If anyone is interested in these for shaft, cores, or other material, lmk. I’m looking to go in another direction. Will accept trades also possibly. PM me for details.

You're not the first to run into that. My suggestion would be to try and find a local pool table vendor who buys used tables. Most times they are buying the table and accessories together. I have several in my area and anytime they move or purchase a table they call me and I sort through all of the cues and pick what I want for a flat price. In my case, it took a few years to cultivate the partnerships (offering repair services at reduced cost, paying a little more an occasional box of tips that I didn't really even need etc.) But it's been well worth the time and effort as I now get to sort through cues at least once a week.

P.S. - Old wood is the best wood house cue wise. It doesn't matter what brand it was from what I'm seeing unless we are talking specifically about Titleist and Butterfly spliced butts. Here's a nice old Brunswick conversion. Lots of curl in the rosewood.
