How Accurate Is This?

I asked in another forum if I could change the ferrule on my break cue from a standard ferrule to a phenolic & put a white diamond tip onto it but the response I got was that it won't work because the tip wouldn't adhere to the ferrule & therefore would just pop off in all likelihood.

What I would like to know is, is this true & if so why do I see many pro players using a phenolic ferrule with a standard tip on their break sticks rather than a one piece ferrule/tip combo.

I'm not sure if it's possible or not but I would advise using the current ferrule you have and switching to a samsara break tip. It gives better control over a white diamond and you aren't really sacrificing any speed.

If you break at a top speed of 17 mph I would recommend focusing on your technique more than changing your break stick imo.

Yes, you can have a phenolic ferrule and glue a White Diamond tip on it.

I prefer a leather tip though. I don't like White Diamond tips.

And yes, I did have one pop off and the ferrule wasn't even phenolic.

Only if the ferrule or tip is improperly "put" on the cue.
The ferrule needs to be "faced" to the tennon after being installed (and the glue dries)
Given a flat "face" on the cue, the properly glued tip will hold.
