How do I get on the "TOP GUN" list in APA? What is the formula? I thought it was domination of your opponents but I must have been mistaken. I am a good 6. I have played 8 matches, 1 loss. I have only lost 6 games out of nearly 40 yet I'm not on the list. I have been working my butt off to go from a beginner last year to a pretty well rounded player. Special thanks to all of the "old" players for sharing their knowledge. You guys have been great too! I don't want you to feel left out. There has to be a way I can calculate what I have to do to get this gratification. I want to play the best this is one way to do that. I play in tournaments all of the time, mostly just donating to the pot. But i'd like to someday be known as a feared player. If you can give me any answers please let me know. I'll take advice too.

In my area, at the end of every session, there's a "Top Gun" tournament for all qualified. Anyone who has a match (not game) win/loss percentage of 70% or greater for the session gets to participate.

Contact your league operator, or ask your team captain, or one of the other team captains in your area - they may well do things differently, and those folks would know what the score is.

Well in our region our system is some what different. Each session there are 4 Top Gun Recipents. Two from the 2-4 skill levels, and two from the 5-7 skill levels in 8 ball. Two of the recipents get the award for winning percentage & two get the award for performance points for the totals of the skill levels of the opponents that they have beaten over the session.

I hope this helps. Black Cat

When I used to play it was per team. Team Top Gun award. Then there was a 3 league MVP awards 2-3, 4-5, 6-7. It has been a long time ago but that is the way it was then. One session I got 4 different trophies. Overall team winners, Team top gun, League MVP and most 9 ball breaks.

they change the numbers that get to go in my APA league,,,if I'm #9 then the top 8 go,,,if I'm #7, then the top 6 get to go,,,,and so on...the league operator is a @#$%^ and can't stand the fact that I call his hand on rules and such,,,,

as to ranking, depends on wins plus handicap of who you played,,,if a SL6 only plays SL 3,4,5's and wins, it doesn't count as much as beating 6's and 7's,,,,,,,,,,,j

the apa league operator in my area is a complete arse.. i have not played in the apa nor will i ever till they get a new one.. they brought the tap league to my area because of the apa league op does what he wants when he wants and causes alot of problems and throws people out for playing good..

As far as I know in my APA league you get the point value of the player that you beat. If you beat a 5 this week then yu get 5 points on the top gun list. I was tied for first until I played the peson that I was tied with last night. We are both fives and had a race to four, I started to get beat bad but came back to tie it up 3-3. I ended up losing but at least I made it a good game oh well there goes my winning streak for this session.

APA Top Gun

I get the Top Gun patch for beating all the other7s, 8s & 9's (my peers) in my league the majority of the time.

Heck where have i been I'm locked in as a 7 in 8 ball and 9 ball from Vegas trips and I have never heard of a APA top gun. Leonard

You should ask Marc the next time you see him, or give Kim or Julie a call. I'm sure they'd be happy to explain it to you. By the way, where did you get a Top Gun list for this session? I wasn't aware that one had been done yet.

I know, the league I am in, does it, by the point value of the SL of the person you beat.

The only time, I've even come close to winning was last summer because in the 8ball league, we have a SL7 who nobody can beat. So He will just play every SL6 or 7, when he gets the chance. I think the first session I played, this guy won 13 of 14 matches. The one match he lost lol was kinda a fluke, one of our SL6's lost the first two games, then ran out, snapped the 8, and did two BNR's lol.

But the guy still had something like 70points, and the next closest person was another SL6 on our team with 56points.

Our L/O puts up the first topgun list after the first 4 or 5 weeks, and then updates them every 2 or 3 weeks after that. I will say, its kinda nice, cuz one of the girls on my team, has won the topgun for the past 3 or 4 sessions, lol. But she is the best female shooter in this league, and she's only a SL4 lol.

Sandbag better than anyone else.
In order to sandbag as you say... then you'd have to lose....
Losing is not the way to get on the Top Gun List. Exactly opposite.
Nice try... Watchez

That is why you most likely play the APA and can't figure it out. Sandbagging doesn't mean that you lose. I don't have the energy to explain it further but that is what the APA is all about.

You make some bad assumptions...
I understand, you're trying to beat a dead horse with something that doesn't even relate to the Top Gun...
You might even try to imply that trying to be underrated would help you to win matches. But, there are definitely cases where being rated low, won't help you to gain Top Gun points...

Enough said... how bout we not hijack the thread and stay on topic?

Nothing Personal

but being a Top Gun in the APA is about like

a Demolition driver saying he could win Nascar races.

Get into a BCA advanced league, then tell us how you feel.

I think it's different for every region. And every region doesn't call it "Top Gun." I think our region, the top player (by winning percentage) is invited to the yearly Best of the Best Tournament. And I hear they get to always be on the list forever. I could be completely wrong, however, since that's all hearsay.

It's been said

In my region, you get the points of the SL you beat. At the end of the session, the one player (regardless of SL) that has the most points is the Top Gun.

I won last session out of about 100 players on Monday nights, but as a SL 6 myself, I generally play the other team's highest SL player. I think it would be nice if there were multiple awards for the SL 2/3, 4/5, 6+ divisions, because generally teams match players in the those SL tiers. It's hard for a SL 2, 3, or 4 to win Top Gun in my area, when they get fewer points through their match up.

I also agree with other posters. For my area, the best pool players generally don't play APA. They Play ACS, BCA, and Valley Master's division. Now that my son plays league pool, I'm enjoying my nights out with the APA. There's some pretty good competition, but not like the other players I know in the other leagues.

Since I posted early and didn't really explain the Top Gun thing in my area besides a tiny bit, I'll expand.

At the end of every session, our LO (and I know at least one neighboring LO does the same thing, so it seems to be a regional thing) has a "Top Gun Tournament". All players in that LO's area, who have played at least seven matches that session with a win/loss percentage (regardless of their SL or the SLs of their opponents) of 70% or greater - i.e. if you played 10 matches, you had to win 7; if you played 9, you had to win 7 (because 6 of 9 is only 66%); etc etc. are invited.

Everyone's in one big pile, from 2s up to 7s, though the draw is done by SLs - i.e. all the 7s are randomized and put at the very top of the bracket, then the 6s, etc and the lowest participating SLs (usually never get 2s) are grouped at the bottom. This way folks play other folks of their SL, or close to it, to start off. As the day progresses, the SLs mix up. Matches are normal SL-vs-SL races.

On top of that, once a year they have a "Top Gun All-Stars" tournament, where the folks who did well in the three Top Gun tournaments are invited to come back.

I don't believe we have a "top gun" here. I think the closest thing we have is the team "big dog" award at the end of the session. I'll ask K.T. or Dave the next time I see them.
