How do I resafe this shot?

I'm constantly confused on how to go about shooting this shot. What I try to do is to bank the OB towards the side pkt. and back down to the other short rail. I lose the CB when doing this. I know the easy half ball and send both balls to opposite long rail shot but I feel its a weak comeback. Any thoughts on a better way to shoot it?

P.S. The balls don't have to be in this specific position. There are many variations that equally confuse me. It's just OB on 1 short rail and CB on other short rail.

If they lay exactly as diagrammed I usually go for the bank. Play it correctly (leaving the cueball on/near the short rail) and
there is a decent chance of getting a safe if you miss.

If starting from your example the cueball is a few inches higher or lower I try to bank the objectball straight up, basically switching places with the cueball.

Agree with Dave. In that exact layout, I'm going for the bank all day. The odds of making it are about the same (if not higher) than actually executing a successful safety.

And as Dave said, if they aren't directly in line, you can bank the OB to the other rail and leave the CB in it's place.

Another option if the OB is a ball's width from the rail is to kick behind it using a little high/inside. The trick is to aim as though you were trying to kick the OB in the side pocket. Occasionally it will actually go in, but most of the time it hits short and then goes to the opposite end rail and you leave the CB stuck or very near the other end rail.

I would highly suggest you practice all of these choices (and any others that might get suggested) as they will undoubtedly win you some games.

... leaving the cueball on/near the short rail ..
Maybe I have to see it on the table but I think this part is really hard. But if I do shoot the bank I'll try to play the object ball at a speed that doesn't quite get it back to the side pockets after hitting two short rails.

I think a shot very close to this was posted recently and the solution in a tournament was to kick off the top cushion and make the ball. I think it was by some English person. Shoot that against most people and it would gnaw at their brain.

You could try the double kiss shot. I prefer the 9 to be a little closer to the rail but it's doable. Shoot the cb directly into the ob and it will double kiss off the ob, leaving the ob near the same spot and sending the cb back down table . You have to hit it dead straight. There's no room for error with this shot but it works, but the ob has to be on or very close to the rail.

The other option is to practice the bank shot until you've increased your odds of making it.

If you roll it in as you are describing then yes it is hard to keep the cueball near the rail.
Play it a little firmer with top spin and possibly a little inside english and you can kill the cueball after the short rail.
My thinking is, if I get it in the jaws it doesn't matter if I hit it a bit harder, there still a decent chance of a safe.
If you miss the jaws completely then your speed is certainly better.

I posted this shot in the main forum and the shot suggestion that I am choosing to practice is this 1. Shoot the CB with center-right and bring the OB around 4 rails to its starting position more or less and bring the CB around 3 rails to around same starting postion. If the OB goes in the top side pocket its a bonus.

I know the shot. Good luck with that one. That's a hard one.

Hi,
how exactly this is done? can you sketch a picture? I also often seen this and most of time I sold this out.

I would personally shoot with lots of right hand side, miss the ball on the left fractionally and have the OB move to the right along the rail and the CB come back up to the short rail leaving the opponent in the same situation. Depends massively on how accurate you are with lots of English over the length of the table.
