How do you break a rack of 10 ball?

If you are playing rack-your-own 10 ball, how would you rack 'em, and how would you break 'em? When I ask "how would you break 'em" I'd like to know where you'd place the cue ball, how you'd hit the one ball, how strong, and so on.

How do the pro's do it?

Joe Tucker's Racking Secrets has a section on 10-ball. That being said, I break from what would be the outer edge of "the box."

Breaking from the side might get you the one-ball in the side pocket more often, but I find that I can't spread them at all that way. 10-ball head on break doesn't spread them like 9-ball as it is.

Fred <~~~ thinks 10-ball on a 7' bar table is one of life's greatest pleasures

I break from where the second diamond on the right long rail meets the 3rd diamond on the back rail. Break about 3/4 speed. I find this to be the most effective in making the 10 ball in the "5" hole, for you golf people....

I once made the 10 ball on the break 3x in a row! :D

)END

You can make the one ball if you hit the one just a little bit to the left of center. Try to shoot the one ball at the first diamond from the far corner. Its very hard to make any of the other balls. I use a tip of bottom inside on my breaks.

Any recommendations about break speed and follow or draw?

Terry

Edit- Reason I ask, it seems like a crapshoot going from the side as far as scratching is concerned.

Real hard and square so you stop your rock. No soft breaking in 10 ball unless on brand new cloth and its working for you.
