How do you deal with slow players?

Slow play, I mean real slow play....Is there anything worse???

I used to struggle with players like this, and it worked. I let them get to me, and players with half my game could beat me regularly. I once travelled to a tourny with a friend, he had a first round bye, then lost his next match. He came by and my 1st round match was still 7-7. By this time my opponent had me beat already. He would take 5 minutes on average with ball in hand, play a hook, and I would step up and kick as as the ball stopped, missing it by several feet. LOL

The best advise I can give, is to relax, and say to youself "I have no place to go, and am in no hurry" I mean you are playing to win the tourny, so where do you have to go?? Whats the rush? You are going to be in that poolhall for a long time, so get used to it.

Thank y'all for the interesting and helpful ideas on dealing with those slowsters.

In the interest of full disclosure, the slowster referred to in my first post on this thread is, you guessed it, me. :D

However, I'm no 4 or 5 minute guy, just someone who does his best, and doesn't really play slowly at all. I'd love to have a shot clock to make things really interesting, as it wouldn't slow me down one bit. It's just that people tend to think I'm playing slowly because they may be feeling the heat, and sense the ball is going down. :D As it often does :p

Yeppers, that fellow who said I put him in a coma really didn't like losing. If he had won that match, nary a word would have been uttered about the way I played. Actually, he said I played great that evening. By the way, he's a far better player, and in that match we were on the toughest table in the house, with a couple of pockets that like to spit balls out. He had to go to 8, yours truly to 5. I won, 5-3. That probably didn't stroke his ego :D

Cheers!

Grrrr!!!

A little slow is okay, but excessively slow is uncalled for, and a skarking technique.

If you don't know how to stroke the ball, what are you doing playing?
Aiming should NOT take over 5 seconds unless you need an eye exam.

I tend to get pretty CADDY with a slow player.

Just yell out for all to hear, 'Shotclock, we need a Shotclock over here before I kill him' ..... lol

You mean the Danny Basavich stuff? Pretty outrageous.

I have to agree with Jimmy Mendoza on not watching my opponent while they are up at the table. I usually watch the table next to me play and mentally run out in my head as they shoot to keep my mind working.

He's brutal. Absolutely brutal.
I saw him play Bustamante at the Bike 2 years ago.
I was close to screaming at him to shoot already.

I only have a tough time playing slow players if they are beating me, because I have so much time in the chair to start thinking too much or getting negative with myself.

I gamble with a slow player every so often and he once told me that it was tough for him to play a fast player like myself because once he got down a set or two it would take a lot of effort to make it up.
