How Do You Decide a Fargo Starter Rating

I noticed a player that has a Fargo Starting Rating (after 45 games) of 636 with a Starter Rating at 625. This person mainly plays in the team events and will take years to get an established rating.

The problem is that he is clearly a Master player who should of been started at 675.

So the question is how does the Fargo Rating System determine a starter rating for a player when their is little information on this player since he rarely plays in the singles event?

When you cap a team at 3,250 and a player is underrated by at least 40 points because his starter rating was set at 625 instead of 675 if becomes a problem in my opinion.

To avoid an argument I am rated at 661 with a Robustness of 483 and he is a better player than me (and most of my peers would agree with this).

It happens. My buddy and I play as good or better than everyone else on our team, and he is 565, and I am 550. Our team total is 2990. 3000 point limit for the Gold division..

I've only played nationally once. 2015 BCA singles and team 8 ball. If my points don't justify me moving up, and I don't have any high finishes in big events, then I deserve a chance to go and win.

I know a lot of great players.. Doesn't mean they will break the top 50 in the Open division at BCA. Actual performance at national events trumps all considerations of subjective skill measurement. One of the guys on my team plays REAL good. And went out in like 3 rounds in the Open last year.

Your opinion of how well he plays doesn't matter if it is not backed up by his performance in national events. :-)

According to what has been said here, FargoRates starting point is taken from which class they were in some other rating systems. If the player was in an inappropriate place to begin with, that will be reflected in their FargoRate. You would have to ask THEM what can be done to change their starting point.

It should be noted that given their starting point, current rating, and what has been discussed for the algorithm, the player is currently playing at 673.8 rating (the 636 is the influence of the starting point).

Starting points become less influential as more games are played, and additionally old games decay in influence, but I am not sure if that applies to starting point as well.

Thank you kindly.

If he was on the master list before (i.e., would not have been eligible to play on an open team in the old system) then PM me, and we will change his starter rating. If he was listed as advanced before--what I think is likely the situation--then we will let play take care of it.

This is the age-old $64,000 question in disguise. It is the same issue that has always been around. You can see we are making progress by the fact he is already above 625. Data will set us free.

If we had every team player's rating correct within 30 points right now we'd be dancing in the streets.

This is just not going to be that unusual a situation. The key is the situation is much better than it used to be and it improves by the day.
