How do you find your opponent's weakness?

playing the percentages that give you the best chance of winning does you no good unless you can factor in what he is likely to do. then you can base your shot on all the info.

you can have say two possible shots. one is against a player equal to you
and one say inferior.

your best chance of winning that game is by choosing the right shot against him.

The skill of the opponent definitely goes with the percentage equation. If the guy I'm playing can only run a few balls at best, I'm pretty much never playing safe, playing anyone above 550, choices change, playing someone similar to my level, there will be way more safes played.

I agree with this I used to play a guy who was better than me but he couldn’t jump. Guess what he would get 3 or 4 simple safes from me each game and I would win more often than not. However the safes were very easy jumps for another person. … He got the hint though and spent a few days at home practising his jumps- he is still no Fedor but now I have to get the white at least fairly close to the covering ball !
 
First, do you know the Fargo of your opponent? If they are way higher than you, just shoot your best... maybe be a little extra aggressive in your decisions. Anyone over 700 is not weak in anything, just not world class.

If they are way under, just play your game and play safe more than normal so you don't gift them games... make them earn it.

Similar speed.... could be anything. If you don't know anything about them, leave them some really long shots or some reasonable jumps and see how they make out.

I've found I play better if I don't know anything about my opponent because I play as if they are stronger than me, which leads to better decisions.

I've worn a watch for most of the 40 years I've been playing pool. Not sure what you're getting at, but for reference, I'm a lefty and wear my watch on my left hand, and because of this, it's never been an issue on the table.

Side note: I have often wondered if wearing it on the stroking arm, think breaking and/or shots that require more energy than normal (jump shots?), can affect the watch. I'm sure all of my watches are quartz driven so that part shouldn't be affected but, there's still lots of little moving parts inside, can something ever get rattled? I can't say I have ever noticed a difference but the inner mechanism of one of my watches has rotated?
 
My wristwatch is a fit bit that I wear quite often when I'm playing pool it has a elastic band so it normally doesn't have a negative effect on my stroke over the movement needed while playing a game .
