How do you make a expensive cue?

Spend a million dollars on a shop to make cues.

When Ernie read this post he said buying the equipment was only the first step, he then modified each machine, sometimes a complete rebuild to be sure it would hold the tolerances, for each step necessary to make the best cue he could make.

Ernie said because one of his machines looked like it just arrived from the manufacturer the cue maker who saw it asked Ernie where he bought the machine. When the cue maker called the distributor he was told that they did not make the modifications he saw and they could not sell him a machine like the one he saw.

When I asked when and why he decided to build the shop Ernie said when he started making cues.

He told himself it would be nice not to have to set up the lathe for each operation.

The shop is dust free because of a extensive dust collection system and the shop is quiet because you can't hear the nearly silent rotary air compressor.

One of the unique machines he built from scratch is the one to apply a even finish on the cue, this makes the final sanding and buffing easier and faster.

There is also his commitment to buy the best, when Ernie saw he was near the end of his Champion Tip supply he bought 10,000, yes he really bought 10,000 original Moori tips from Japan.

Because he bought so many tips Moori explained how he makes his tips.

I hope not but Ernie said he is thinking about quitting.

I'm actually surprised he hasn't retired.
But, if someone buys that real-estate of his, he can probably move back to Colombia and have a great life smoking cigar and drinking wine.
The cue maker joke on visiting his shop is, you end up wanting to torch your shop.
He has lathes dedicated to do leather wraps and cutting rings for crying out loud.
And what's more sick is his cnc machines are networked and he can send jobs from his office.
He's easily the greatest cue maker who ever lived.

Thank you for replying.

Human nature being what it is I'm guessing some readers will think I am not bing truthful.

Some of Ernie's machine are covered, I was there one time after he finished using the machine when he answered the phone without covering it.

I couldn't help myself, I went over and operated with scrap material and I was amazed how well it worked.

I can't tell you what the machine did but I will say every cue maker wished they had the machine.
