How do you pronounce Schon?

Back in 1996, I was riding in a plane to Puerto Rico with the Pro Billiards Tour to work in the PBT's tournament and Bob Meucci was sitting in front of me.

After a couple of cocktails, I told Bob that nearly every person I knew pronounced his last name and the name on his sticks as "Mew-chee". It is really pronounced "May-ooch-ee".

I asked him if that bothered him, he replied: "Hell no, they can call it a McDermott as long as they buy it!" :grinning-moose:

I don't care what anybody says about Bob Meucci, that there is HILARIOUS!

I was just going to hijack this thread and ask how folks pronounced Meucci...I know the correct pronunciation, but always called them "Moochie". Have also heard it pronounced "MeeYOOchee" but only heard it correctly pronounced "MayOOHchee" in advertisements.

I don't know where all the folks who pronounce Schon correctly are...I've been all over the U.S. and Europe and only heard it pronounced "Shawn"...yes, I know it's not right, but nearly 100% of the Schon owners I've met say it wrong, too. When I die, they will put my "Shawn" in the casket with me (yep, I'm takin' it with me). I see the results of the poll have "Shown" a close second, but I've honestly NEVER heard it pronounced that way anywhere...and I've known hundreds of Schon owners.
