how do you...

never and i mean never judge someone by the gear they carry. people overestimate my game all the time by the stuff i have. i have a custom cue, a lomax jumper, a nice instroke case, and i am mediocre at best.
when asked why i have nice gear if i'm not that good, my answer is simply - at the time i had the money to get nice stuff. that's it. i didn't feel i reached a level where i "deserved" it. i had the cash, got some good deals and bought.
if you want to know how someone plays you have to watch. the grip, the stoke, the stance, how they look at the layout. that's where they will give themselves away sometimes if they are trying to hide speed.

Larry Price won his 2nd DCC Bank Title playing with a $35 Player...and it was a jump/break no less...

So, you can't judge by equipment!

The 3 Steps to "Clock" a Player:

1. Watch
2. Listen
3. Learn

And if you have done all 3 of these and found yourself in a game with a player who is running over you, maybe you didn't perform 1 or all of said steps enough to fully estimate your chances of winning! ;)
