i was shooting the breeze with the guys last night. and seeing as how we dont knwo anything we were wondering how expensive a custom cue could go, for instance could you get the but and fore arm of a cue covered with mother of pearl, then have gold and or diamond inlays in that? 18 oz, stacked leather grip, two shafts just curious, because we think it would be dead sexy and i would just about start saving the big bucks for something like that. lmk thanks.

I think this would be a good question for Blud! I want a cue with Ebony, Curly Maple and Amythest inlays (my birthstone), but I keep hearing that Amythest can't be used in cues because it's so fragile. I know it's cheap, so if something were to ever happen, it could be replaced at a lower price!

I have heard of cues going for (or being offered for) 100's thousands. I know of two off hand. But those cues have some meaning behind them. They arent just super nice cues.

I think 10K was the high dollar price. But now I believe its up to 15 or 20 for something totally outrageous and truly one of work of art.

Cognosenti offered one with diamonds in it several years back. It was a beautiful stick. I think is was about 50K.
Cogo runs a banner ad on this web site, I would contact Ron who sells a lot of Joeys work and ask him this question.

Cues, and big bucks.

There have been many cues sold for thousands of dollars.
Joey Gold, who is a great cuemaker, has sold several for above 20K and up to 50K plus. [ and "HE" can "PLAY"].

At the Hopkins show in March, I sold 3 cues for $21,500.00..... I have also sold several very high end cues. At this time, I am building a few high end cues, starting at $5,500.00, 6K, 7.5k, 9k, and 11k.....

More custom high end cuemakers,

These custom cuemakers also build high end cue, Bill Schick,Tim Scruggs, Dan Janes, David Kikle, Paul Mottey and many others.

Hope this helps one and all.

see ya

yikes, i never expected that kind of pricing, now its just more morbid curiousity than teenage girl dreams. oh well. i'm still curious, whats a rough estimate for the cue i described

... Some cuemakers who sale their cues for 20 and up, will not discuss these cues. People who spend that kind of money can be very private.

Snook... Prices are going to change according to who you pick. One guy might do it for 2 grand while another is going to make you wait 3 years and charge ya 20. Your buying that persons name, experience, etc.; not so much the elaborate work

There are some other factors to consider like the 4Cs. You did mention diamonds right? The 4Cs that I mentioned refers to the Clarity, Color, Cut and Carat weight. Thus the quality of the diamonds that you want inlayed is a major factor in determining the final price of your cue. Your cue can cost you from US$4K if it had 8 SI quality 0.2 carat round cut diamonds in a 6 prong 14K gold setting or more than 5 figures if you require more diamonds of higher grade(4C).

And yes, Beavis is right when he said that the details of a cue at that range cannot be discussed in a public forum.

a cuemaker can get as elaborate as he wants. there are "artistic" cues being made which are TOTALLY unplayable. (sometimes, you can't even tell it's a cue). these are cues that are created from pure fantasy with absolutely no thought given to playability.

as for pricing,,,a cuemaker can price his cue (the fantasy cue, for instance) at anything he desires. but the cues REAL worth is only what someone is willing to pay, so the value is hypothetical.

however, if you want a real worth observation about cue prices.......if we're talking current cuemakers. i think kershenbrock is perhaps the most expensive. david kershenbrock's cues start AT MINIMUM around $15,000. these are all legitimate PLAYING cues with value based on only three things

1...the cuemaker...kershenbrock is historically important with a massive reputation

2...he only makes ten or less cues per year.

3...he is in high demand

i don't know if he has done any $50,000 cues like some others, but he could if he chose to.

the only other who happens to be in a class by himself is ernie gutierrez.

... Try to buy one of David's Cue's. There is one buyer who gets first chance all his cues, and buys them.

There is other cue makers out there that charge those crazy prices. But they wont talk about them because its "tacky" more than anything. Most people who spend 20 on a cue are usually the private type.

could i see some pictures of these fantasy cues? and if somebody happens to have them, pictures of the 20 and up cues. just in case you happen to have a camera handy fast larry, i would love to see your special cues

Snook.. I do have some pics, but no way to post them online. I do plan on getting a site soon though. I will let ya know when they are posted.
