i just looked up the league standings in my apa dj league. we have 8 teams and play 16 weeks. we just played our 7th week. we have a 5 way tie for 2nd place. thats right, 5 teams with the same score and just 4 points behnd 1st place. this is in 8 ball. last place team is 9 points behind 1st.
my team is one of those in the tie.

in 9 ball its the opposite. none of the teams are very close together except for 1st and 2nd. my team is in 2nd place, just 10 points behind 1st. there is a 122 point gap between 1st and last place. we have a very low handicapped team. im the highest as a 5. our captain is a 4. 2 other guys are 3s and 2 girls are 2s. i think we hang pretty tough with the higher handicapped teams.

are any of your leagues like this ?

evenly matched

Pretty common with our league as well. We had 16 teams in our division of 8 ball and after 16 weeks we had 4 teams tied for 1st, 2 teams 1 point out of 1st and several teams 3 points out of 1st. last place was only 9 points out. In 9 ball several teams are almost always close at the end of session. Anyone has a chance to win that last week.

this is my 3rd session in this league. the 1st 2 sessons the teams were nowhere near this close in the points. we split our team after last session and another new team was added, i think that helped with the parity i see so far this session. we split our team due to personality conflicts among a few. well... let me rephrase that, not so much personality conflict but the way the team was run. mainly the way the captain matched players up and a lot of times he would play his matches and leave, leaving the co-captain to finish running the show. i and 2 others just like to play pool, too much drama on that team.

Out of 14 teams, first and second will be decided by 2 teams. No way anyone is going to catch them. Third through abouth nineth is really close, and the rest is way down on the list.
I've been doing the league thing for about 12 years now, and still having a lot of fun.

Our APA 8-ball league is pretty close, as well. Out of 14 teams, 9 are within 5 points of first. Two tied for first, and three more tied one point back. This through the first 6 weeks. (Not accounting for this week, those results haven't been posted yet.) It seemed much the same last session.

Makes it interesting.

I play in a AA BCA league in SW Ohio.. There are 8 teams.. 3 are usually fighting for the top, we are currently in first, just 4 rounds ahead of the 2nd place team and maybe 6 ahead of the 3rd place team.. The league runs from Fall through Spring with no breaks. Roughly 36 weeks. We are now in the last quarter of the session..

The 4th place team is pretty solid too, just about 10 rounds out of first..

After that, the competition really falls off. Any teams that win the A division, are forced to play AA for a couple of years, most don't like it. Some teams choose to play AA even if they don't really have a chance..

It's fun, and I like playing the better teams a lot better. I often try to skip the nights against the weaker teams if the rest of my team mates want to play.

9 ball tends to be less evenly matched because of the wide spread what the scores could be at the end of the night. You only have 3 options in 8 ball (5-0, 4-1, 3-2) so teams that are even close to being evenly matched are naturally going to have similar splits and thus similar scores.

in my area, the league gets tougher and more evenly matched as the week goes on. monday and tuesday divisions have 1-2 teams that are dominant session after session. wednesday and thursday get 3-4 teams. friday is a wide open competition between all 10 teams - anyone could win any given session.
