Speaking strictly about 9 and 10 ball here.

What would be a consistent score (race to 10) against the ghost in 9 or 10 ball that would allow you to actually do decent in an open tournament?

I know there's more to winning than just running out, but that's the portion I'm interested in for this thread.
 
I normally only play the ghost races to 7 jsut for times sake. As long as i dont give up more than 3 games per race to 7 im happy and i seem to cash out fairly often in tournys. But racing the ghost is not like playing a real player that sticks you safe or runs out and makes you sit for several racks then you have to perform. My practicee pattern is to play the ghost a race sit down at the bar relax talk goff off and wait about 1 hour then get up and play it again trying to simulate a tourny. Hope this helps you some im sure others will jump in with other thoughts to help aswell.

On 4 1/2" pockets and a 9 foot table, I would say in 9 ball just beating the ghost consistantly will make you a threat to win any match, and beating the 10 ball ghost consistantly would put you at a A+ or even a AA level.
 
You probably should be more specific about how well you want to do and in what open tournaments. If you are talking about just small house open tournaments, you can probably cash pretty often even if you lose to the ghost most of the time. In bigger house and regional open tournaments, you probably have a pretty good chance to cash playing even with the ghost. In events such as the US Open there are no guarantees. Even top pros occasionally go 2 and out, but being able to beat the 10 ball ghost should give you at least a fighting chance. This is all of course on reasonably tough equipment.

im gonna play the 10-ball ghost tonight as a matter of fact jsut to see how well i do cant be that hard LOL.
