I've sold two cues on e-bay, the first sale was a personal meet and exchange money/cue which was easy and nice.
I just sold a second cue yesterday, right after the sale I sent an invoice. It's only been 24 hours and I'm not really worried about it because the guy has a good rating......
But it made me wonder what is, for lack of a better term, "the unwritten rule" to wait to contact a buyer if you haven't heard from them? 3 days, 4 days?
For those that have sold on e-bay, how long did you wait?
Hey Jeff,
After about 1500 transaction on Ebay, here's what I do: Immediately after Auction send "Congrats - You Won! Now Pay Me" email. Sounds like you did that.
Wait 72 hours. Though I like a quick reply, it's just too easy for someone to be away from email for a few days.
After 3-days, send another email - both through the Ebay Contact System (good audit trail) and directly to the Buyers Email (Available to you as the Seller). State that the Auction ended 3-days ago, and you need a reply ASAP, including their payment method, etc. Some people will actually mail a payment without notifying you or sending an email.
Wait 24 more hours. If still no contact, report it to Ebay. It's not a "NPB Report", it's a "Problem with Buyer - No Contact" report. Ebay will then make every reasonable attempt to contact the Buyer.
At the same time, you can request ALL the Contact Info (actual address, phone, etc) that Ebay has on the Buyer (only those in an active transaction can do this). The Buyer will also be notified that you have requested and received this information.
Send another email daily for 2-more days, and try the contact info (phone, etc) provided by Ebay. After 7-days total, you may initiate a NBP Report (Non-Paying Bidder).
Out of 1500+ deals, I've only gone to DAY 4 one time. And he had mailed payment but was having serious email/internet problems (small ISP closed their doors).
