I was wondering how long it took you to go from one rating (in the A-D system) to the next one. For example, to go from D to C, or from C to B, or from B to A.

i went from a low C to a middle of the pack B in about a year and a half. My improvements have slowed down substantially, but i recently found myself playing much better now that I put a lot more concentration and focus into the draw back motion of my stroke.
A year to go from C to AAA in Colorado.
Or maybe that was a decade. Hard to remember it's kinda foggy.

Hmm....well I first started in college about 6 years ago and went from not being able to hold the cue properly to being what I guess is a respected player on campus, about a low C imo, in about 6 months to a year. Granted there weren't any great great players, but there would be what I guess is 2 or 3 solid B players and 1 or 2 high B/low A players there at that time. Right now I would like to think I'm a solid B, probably not though, and it took I guess the other 5 years with 2 or 3 month breaks here and there to get to where I am right now. With those breaks added up I would like to think I took maybe a 1 year break or maybe more, so probably around 4 years to jump to the next level for me. I guess nothing dramatic for me but I'm semi-happy with where I am.
Some people really skyrocket and others sort of become stagnant after a while. I think in order to get really good/great though you have to put in ALOT of time and be willing to sacrifice other things, so your results may vary.

I don't really understand the A B C ratings, as we don't have anything like that here.
But I started playing in a English team pool league when I was 15, started in division 15 and it was a good 7 or 8 years before we were able to compete against the very best teams from my area. Kinda like going from a Z- to an A?

After starting, playing APA for the last 8 years..
4 months to make it to 5 in 8b, about 5 more months to make it to 6 in 8b. April of 2006 I made it to a 7 in 9b. Took about 2 years of being a 6 to move up to a 7 in 8b. Took about another year to hit 9 in 9b, but went down and didn't make it back up to stay until about another year later. So, I've been an APA 9 for almost 2 years straight. I won our BCA 'B' singles last October, so now a local 'A'. If I continue to play as well I've been, I may place high enough to move up to local Master. After that, it starts all over with the national rankings..
Those numbers aren't exact, but it sounds about right from what I remember. Been playing 8 years and each year I'm better than I was, but still worse than people think.
Edit: After reading, maybe it took 2 years to hit a 9?
